  1. Hi, I just use a regular cheap (and quite small) cardboard cutter or a cheap hobby knife. I tend to use cheap knives, as they dull fast anyway so no point buying anything expensive. If the part is thicker, I either use a regular size cardboard cutter or a cheap hobby saw for metals. I also use different files a lot for a clean finish, and often I use dremel extensively. Here is a picture that shows tools I used for the model in the pic. I am sure there are some stuff missing, like sidecutters. Sharp, quite hefty sidecutters are also very nice for rough shaping, tough a bit unwieldy so better leave detail cuts to knives.
  2. Have not been that active of late on these forums but this thread is one of those threads I regularly visit. Awesome stuff. I have a room full of stuff that is waiting to be turned into terrain. One of these days man, one of these days. This kind of stuff really helps with getting into it. Thanks for posting.
  3. I realised I had not uploaded these three - nothing fancy, but I thought maybe they all should be here if some are These are Anyat (who sometimes is also something else, like zerat hacker or morat paramedic), Haiduk sniper (who is also sometimes a spec ops!) and my Nexus Spitfire w. nanoshield (who is a DAMNED BEAST on the table!! love this guy for the points he costs) So I am keeping up with the theme of using scraps. I bought the Anyat model ages ago but she was tiny and did not fit my view of Morats so I made a male conversion for my actual Morat force, leaving her obsolete. Not anymore. The Haiduk was a fun innovation. I desperately needed a spec ops for a tourney, so I scrounged trough the really unwanteds (the ones that I previously could not justify using anywhere, not even with these guys) and the parts just came together. She has served poorly, but costs pennies for a sniper so is ok. The spitfire Nexus has performed like a beast and I really, really like him. Fits my playstyle perfectly. I also quite like the conversion, even tough its pretty simple.
  4. Thanks fellas! I have been buried under a lot of work and apologies I have not gotten round to do a lot more on my Infinity stuff but rest assured, I am only on a break We are currently trying to get a club going here (we got the space, the terrain, the tables etc - all we need is local players to join the club! And of course to properly set it all up. Now it is just a logistics nightmare with lots of shelves not drilled to the walls) and I am sure Infinity is going to get back to my menu pretty quickly after that. Thanks for the positive vibes and @horridperson I do like your thinking!
  5. Literally the only thing I see when I look at the Legate model... I just have to do this some day.
  6. I love converting stuff. Especially the profiles that have no official "new" miniatures. This pic has my spitfire Rasyat from a few angles. Got the parts for two more, but have not built them up yet.
  7. Chainrifle krakot is pretty awesome for that same reason. Grenades. And he still packs a punch if you decide to close in. Additional four inches is not infiltrate for deployment, but 14 pts is not a bad thing for vanilla CA as every "position player" seems to cost an arm and a leg. I have a krakot everywhere I go.
  8. Hi, I have been painting somewhat sporadically last few months, but this new project has been going on in the background. It started when I was having lunch with a good old friend of mine, and we were talking about gaming in general. He is an MtG-player at heart, and have not played any miniature games in ages. He got fairly interested about the game mechanics as we were talking about Infinity, and since he loves making combos he kind of picked Tohaa on the spot when going trough the myriad of factions as his favourite. I proceeded to buy a chunk of Tohaa from another friend at a bargain prize, and added a few miniatures to the lot that it desperately needed. Not saying the miniatures I have are the best Tohaa combo there is, but it is a start my plan is to paint them up and let my friend game with them as much as he wants. If he really gets into it, I might just hand them over permanently. As of this moment I have 6 models done and 10 more in the works. I was asked about earlier how I painted them and so I made a little step by step that kind of shows what I have done with all of them, at least to some extent. Sorry about the blur, it seems my camera phone settings are messed up or some upload function is acting up! damn thing... 1 - mini is basecoated with black, then oversprayed with vallejo flat brown to give it an uneven chocolate brown colour, tipping slightly towards reds rather than blues. After that, some areas are airbrushed blue. I used a custom blue, but any light blue that is tipping towards cyan is great. We are looking for a nice contrast with the choc brown here. 2 - paint edges with a lighter blue. I used the same blue I mixed for the airbrush but lightened it up pretty hard, so it will really pop off all that dark base work. I use the same light blue to basecoat white parts. 3 - green parts. I used vallejo lime green. Try to have the paint as thin as possible without it being a wash. I paint a lot of my colours like this. It dries fast and you can sort of layer it on the go, amplifying the parts you want to paint brighter. 4 - 50/50 mix with vallejo lime green and vallejo lemon yellow and go back to the greens to give it more of a punch. 5. Darken the deep parts and do some profiling with vallejo transparent green. 6. Paint the weapons and other black parts with german grey. I dont use much black as it is a bit too dark and dominating for my taste, but vallejo german grey is black enough for anyone to say "black" when looking at it next to other colours. 7. Edges of the weapons with vallejo light green blue and also paint the white parts with the same colour. This makes it easier to get the white really bright later on with just a light application. 8. The mask and some details with white. I use red to direct the eye further towards the face, as these are some busy models. I do a little warpaint with vallejo transparent red. Perfect consistensy and really a pleasure to paint with when doing precision work, but only works well on light backgrounds obviously. 9. Paint the blade with Lime green, adding lemon yellow to the lime gradually as you see fit. 10. Stipple the base with watery rust colours. I used vallejo orange brown with gradually and randomly added vallejo light flesh. Last part is to paint randomly on top of this with vallejo transparent orange. 11. Airbrush a light tone on random edges of the base to give a basecolour for some yellow light effects. 12. Overpaint the previous light spots with vallejo transparent yellow and paint the edges of the base black to push the contrast to maximum. 13. Airbrush lime green carefully to the tip of the gun and to the front edge of the base underside to emphasize the LOS of the model. We are done. I will add more pics as I progress - and I will promise to take better pics when I am all done
  9. I have really fallen in love with the Anathematic hacker Lt. - he is a multitool and a rambo. Does everything I need, tough I admit playing a game this complex and relying on one profile is kind of a dull move. Still, for a simple guy like me, that profile has singlehandedly upped my game. And I really love the fact he is not a TAG so he can go where TAGs can not fit (as he can go prone, making his silhouette petite and manouverable) and still packs a punch like a TAG with its plasma rifle (love that weapon to bits) - more over, when he is doing stuff as a specialist, he is far less vulnerable than any TAG pilot. I realise the point was not to have units like Anathematic share the cons of TAGs but rather the pros, but I think you already get so much bang for the buck it is quite alright as it is. I do like TAGs tough, too. I have a dream to field this one glorious list for no other reason than because. And what a glorious day that shall be. 10. @wisefaiz thanks! And dont worry, Raicho will come he is already painted in yellows... @schoon I had three Fraacta bodies and arms left over from my Morat Rasyat conversions, as I need the wings and the masks to build them. I gave her a new pair of wings and a face from leftover bits (yuan huo invincible "balance arms" and face)
  11. Finally got something done again and took some pics. This "trasheap challenge" escalated somewhat, as I bought a pack of new miniatures for it. Other than that everything is either something that I bought before I knew what I was doing (morats!), salvage, spare parts or unwanteds. Now I have a 300pts CA list in purple. It was kind of an accident. Whole crew. Anathematic. Often Lieutenant hacker. He was the originator of this scheme, but I added some features since the scheme got evolved along the way. My Speculo. I won her from a local painting competition and decided to use the miniature unchanged as my Speculo Killer. She is gonna lure all that PanO. All of it. Maakrep with MULTI sniper. I have mixed feelings about this one. I like the bitsbash and I like her leapy-killy attitude, but I kind of like that HMG option more? My Krakot lady. I think she will also pose as a Kurgat sometimes. Maybe other roles too. She is funky like that. Shrouded. Mostly FO for button pushing action. For that singular purpose I think they rock hard. Another Shrouded. Same deal with the last guy. My flygirl. Not sure if she is going to be Fraacta hacker all the time? Possibly also that Ko Dali who everyone seems to love. Nexus Hacker. Sometimes maybe just a Nexus? This guy is new addition, like an actual bought miniature for this project. I also got the two flamer/baggage dudes in the same box and they are going to get painted too, and played as Ikadrons. I got the Imetrons already - they are those silly antennaes in the group pic in the background. I have played some of these guys already with my Avatar. I am now contemplating on painting him purple too, as that would tie him into my new Vanilla project. That might happen later. Next I will get back to my Morats. I have 7 new guys already in the works and the yellow parts are done. Just need to find the time to finish them off.
  12. These are my Avatar lists. They are not yet field tested, as I am still painting up my group, but looking at the lists here I can see similar choices being made. This project is mainly for laughs, and I am building it from models and parts I thought I would not even use - except maybe the Avatar. The rest of my Vanilla CA is made out of bits box junk, loose parts and a few models I bought before I really decided what I wanted to play. So essentially its a salvage operation. We are playing 400 pts ITS games for the time being with my gaming group. I am not entirely sure why, but sure I can give it a spin. 13. Trash heap challenge! Trying to build a CA vanilla force with just my overflow bits, like a few models I bought years ago and models that I have cannibalized for parts, like the three fraacta. From the limited and strange list of parts came : - Two Shasvastii I plan to run as shrouded, either minelayer or FO. Not much converting here, other than cutting the spitfires short to make combirifles. - Two Imetrons. Haha. The tail from the Fraacta jump pack combined with Raktorak combat junk from under foot x2 - Fraacta hacker made out of cannibalised Fraacta. Head is from the cabbage head tag pilot and the wings are the odd balancers from a yu-jing invincible. - Maakrep with Multi sniper made out of boarding shotgun fraacta w. The tip of the spitfite from the shasvastii, head from the cabbage head tag and the alien tail was also tubing from the same tag? - Maakrep with HMG. Fraacta with combirifle, but the support arm is from an Oznat. Head is part fraacta with horns repositioned, but I needed the face elsewhere so I took a replacement face from a yu-jing invincible helmet. Tail is one of the Anathematic tendrils. Gun is spitfire from cabbage head tag, with again shasvastii spitfire barrel to make it longer. Silly, silly project - but fun. And I never thought I would find a use for any of that! Forgot to mention - going to be partied up with these two:
  14. Hi again. Nothing is ready, but great many things are happening. I was shifting trough my unwanteds and bits box when I thought of a fun project. I decided to make some friends to my Anathematic and make a purple vanilla CA faction on the side. Plan was to utilize only stuff from my infinity bits box, and the models I have bought ages ago. When I started with Infinity I bought the Avatar, Anathematic and a couple shasvastii because I liked the models - but I left them unopened when I discovered the Morat sectorial. I also wanted to find a use for the three fraacta bodies I had in my bits box. I needed the wings and the helmets for my Rasyats, and discarded the rest of the parts. With the help from my bits box however, I fixed together a Fraacta and two Maakrep trackers. There are some funky bits there, but I do feel they look the part. At least for this kind of silly sideproject, that is. I call this venture "Trash-heap challenge"!
