  1. I think I'll go with this. You have the 'out of favour' Crane agent with his personal staff of loyal Celestial Guard. You have the penal force that he has been assigned and is forced to work with for his mission. You have a 'warcor' which I see more as thinly disguised 'spy' keeping tabs on the Crane. It's not the best list design in the world but it was never supposed to be. Comments welcome. 2. What would help us is if you could let us know what missions are in the tournament. In a game like infinity the mission you are playing can make a big difference to the list you build.
  3. Well, I need to play about with the individual options but this does at least make a valid list. 4. Thanks @Mahtamori for taking a look. I like your idea and it's given me something to think about. I do have the issue that I love my Crane model and really want to get that in the list despite it being less than optimal. I mean there will be a few 'less than optimal' choices made whilst constructing this and it's supposed to be a 'casual' list for fun games rather than a focused tournament winner! I can imagine that whilst a Crane might not be 'in disgrace' over something simply because he should have the training and experience not to completely mess something up he could be 'out of favour' due to political games at the higher Agent ranks. "Your old colleague Yan Tai has just made Hsein rank and has personally assigned you to this important mission Li Chang. He has assembled a force which will be waiting for you when you arrive. May you honour the Emperor with you success." I wonder if instead of remotes I should have some Celestial Guard to back him up? That basically means I'm potentially running 3 core fire teams and could use command tokens to swap about during the game. That might be funky. I think that not having an Engineer or Doctor is also the way forward. Yes it makes some missions (highly classified) an absolute nightmare but it just doesn't feel right to have a sophotect assigned to what amounts to a bunch of expendable convicts and remotes. I had just taken the options from the base boxes so I didn't spend much time thinking about who had what. I guess in the spirit of Infinity I can call out a few proxies to go with the better profiles. If I keep the remotes I'll alter them around a little to fit what I own as well. Lose one of the Husong for a second Ru Shi.
  5. Commanders of the Jade Empire, I'm looking for opinions please. My idea is to create a themed ISS list that I can have packed with me ready for pick-up games. I fully understand that Infinity is all about the missions and that having a pre-constructed list is not really how it works but sometimes it's nice to be able to just know I can grab a game if the circumstances allow it. It doesn't have to be tournament viable but it also needs to at least try and be functional. The concept was going to be a Crane commanding a penal force. Basically the guys who get sent to do the less glamourous more hidden missions where the chances are high that they are not coming back. I've got this as the basis of the list made from my favourite Crane model, the Kuang Shi box and the Wu Ming box. Imperial Service ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 110 4 CELESTIAL GUARD (Kuang Shi Control Device) Combi Rifle + Light Smoke Grenade Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 13) KUANG SHI Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5) KUANG SHI Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5) KUANG SHI Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5) KUANG SHI Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11) ZHÀNYING Missile Launcher, Nanopulser, Nimbus Grenades / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (1.5 | 28) WÚ MÍNG Panzerfaust, Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 29) WÚ MÍNG (Forward Observer) Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 31) WÚ MÍNG (Fireteam: Duo) Chain Rifle, Submachine Gun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 25) WÚ MÍNG HMG / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 39) GROUP 21 CRANE IMPERIAL AGENT Lieutenant (Sensor, X Visor) MULTI Rifle, 2 Nanopulsers / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 52) 4.5 SWC | 243 Points Open in Infinity Army The problem is I don't know how to fill out the rest of the list. What would make sense background wise? To me the most obvious would be some remotes/hackers. Given the expend ability of the force it seems that Sophi (Doc + Engineer) would not be sent but without those specialisations I'm giving myself a real problem doing classified missions. How would you spend the last few points to end up with something that was at least partly viable? Thanks
  6. I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder but I have no problem with them. They look fine on the table on their own or next to the Rui Shi and Lu Duan.
  7. Folks Just a quick post because I attended my first actual Infinity tournament over the weekend. Leading up to it I've asked all sorts of noob questions here and you have all been fantastic with your answers. My local Warcor and other club players have been great in their patience with the new guy. I played in the tournament itself and encountered the same level of inclusion and friendliness from my opponents despite it being a competitive setting. I ended the day with a minor loss, draw, minor loss so I didn't set the gaming world alight but importantly I had a good day of playing a great game with friendly people. Massive 'thunbs up' for the infinity community since I first stumbled into the game with the launch of Red Veil. Plus a big thanks here for everyone's help. The game itself is fantastic but the community take it beyond that to something that is joy to be part of.
  8. Thanks both for the quick answers. List sorted, now to wait for the weekend.
  9. The Guilang profiles have Camouflage, infiltration and antipersonnel mines. I understand from the wiki that placing a mine is a short skill (or ARO). So does the Guilang deploy with no mines out on the table and have to place them? Does deploying a mine reveal him from the camo state? Sorry for all the noob questions but trying to decide if including one for a tournament at the weekend is a good idea! I basically want to use one as an area denial tool. Deploy close to an objective, drop some mines and sit there with a boarding shotgun to make the enemy approach to that objective as painful as possible. Maybe sitting there with a combi rifle on supressive fire might work better.
  10. My actual list I kinda like. The main group has all the specialists and two ultra-killy models to either clear the way for my specialist or murder theirs. 2 Sources of smoke for the Ru-Shi and Hsein as well. The second group just generates a few orders for the total reaction bot and then the trio of cheerleaders sit in the backfield in supression fire protecting it and each other. I've found Highly Classified to be one of the missions that you really can't plan for until you are playing it so yes the list is reactive in that respect. I'm worried that it has too many specialists to be a good Capture and protect list and relies too heavily on 2 models and 2 high burst HMG's to be used for Nimbus Zone. Having said all that I have very little clue about the game and not many games to draw any experience or conclusions from.
  11. Fellow forumites. My first tournament is soon and despite having a long lead time real life has stopped me getting games in. As a new player anyway I don't expect to do very well. I'm going for the experience rather than the result. Having said all that I'm in no way prepared for it and need some help. The three missions being played are: Nimbus Zone (the mission description still confuses me) Capture & Protect. Highly Classified. I've got what I feel is a reasonable list for highly classified but I'm not sure if it's acceptable for Capture & Protect. I get the feeling I'm going to need a different list totally for Nimbus Zone but as I mentioned above I have literally no idea where to start with that. So I'm open to all thoughts and suggestions from the more experienced players out there. Nothing too clever or intricate as I'm just not going to be able to pull that off in my first tournament! This is my Highly Classified list T-Hclass ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 110 HSIEN HMG, Nanopulser / Pistol, AP CCW. (2 | 61) RUI SHI Spitfire / Electric Pulse. 12. Just wanted to add to this (as it's been a really helpful thread for me) my experience last night. Having decided to persevere with Kitsune for a few games and starting to understand all the helpful advice in this thread I got to see the plus side. As a camouflage marker she was a thorn in my opponents side for a while. Then she had the opportunity to use smoke and pick on a link team. She killed 3 of them and then was able to slink back into the shadows and re camouflage. So not only managed to kill a few points of models but also warped my opponents plans around her which was equally as important. In other news my Hsein was engaged in CC by my opponent and despite having, in theory, the better chance he managed to roll 20 (Needed 19's or less to hit) and get himself stabbed to death. Guess you've either 'got it' or you haven't.
  13. Moving the smoke launcher is such a simple idea and I never would have got there on my own. Thanks! I did know about the Yao Zao but in my (very, very ,limited) experience nobody bothers to shoot at them.
  14. Actually the Husong may solve several of the perceived problems. It gives me a second remote to repair and a nice ARO piece. I'm not in love with the Keisotsu missile launcher so that is 14 of the points needed. I can lose the Zanshi forward observer in the first group and move the Keisotsu Forward observer into there from the second group to replace it. Putting the Husong in the second group seems ok because it shouldn't need a ton of orders at the start of the game anyway and can be moved into group 1 as casualties occur. I like the idea and will definitely try a test run, thanks.
  15. I currently own this lot (got all of my stuff second hand from multiple sources so it's a strange mix maybe): ARAGOTO (Spitfire) 1 ARAGOTO (Combi Rifle + Light shotgun) 1 CELESTIAL GUARD (Boarding Shotgun) 1 CELESTIAL GUARD (Combi Rifle) 5 DOMARU (Boarding Shotgun) 1 DOMARU (Chain Rifle) 1 GŬILÁNG (MULTI Sniper Rifle) 1 HSIEN (HMG) 1 HSIEN (Multi Rifle) 1 IMPERIAL AGENT CRANE RANK (X Visor) (Spitfire) 1 IMPERIAL AGENT PHEASANT RANK (Combi Rifle + E/Mitter) 1 IMPERIAL AGENT PHEASANT RANK(Chain of Command) (Boarding Shotgun) 1 KEISOTSU (Combi Rifle) 3 KEISOTSU (Missile Launcher) 1 KEISOTSU (HMG) 1 KEMPEI (Boarding Shotgun) 1 LÙ DUĀN (Heavy Flamethrower) 2 NINJA (Tactical Bow) 1 NINJA Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) (DA CCW) 1 ONIWABAN (Monofilament CCW) 1 RUI SHI (Spitfire) 2 SHINOBU (Monofilament CCW) 1 TIGER SOLDIER (Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower) 1 TOKUSETSU EISEI Doctor (MediKit) (Combi Rifle) 1 TOKUSETSU KOHEI Engineer (Combi Rifle) 1 WU MING (Bording Shotgun) 1 YÁOZĂO (Electric Pulse) 2 ZHANSHI (Combi Rifle) 3 ZHÀNYING (Missile Launcher) 1 ZÚYǑNG (Combi Rifle) 1 Having said that I've got 46 days before my first tournament and I'm not opposed to buying anything I need as I don't want to use proxy models when the correct models are in the current range. Obviously as time gets closer it's harder to get things in time. (also a new list consisting totally of new models is probably cost prohibitive) I think that Kuang Shi (and sophi) are needed if I want to go ISS and Shaolin are probably needed if I want to go vanilla Yu Jing and either would be purchases that I would get a lot of use out of. I was initially seduced by the fire team options of ISS but I'm starting to think I prefer the additional choice of vanilla. Don't really know which way to jump for this first tournament which is why I was experimenting with this vanilla list the other night.
