  1. The 300pt starter has a really solid base in my opinion. I feel personally steel phalanx is a very straight forward faction to play, you are looking to leverage your ODD and high stat models against the enemy making it hard for an opponent to face you head on. Playing Tohaa im sure you are used to fire teams and steel phalanx does them well, myrmidons can make a scary offensive team but are expensive and put in someone like phoenix you can really dominate an area of the board. One of the drawbacks to steel phalanx (or at least when i have played them) i feel they dont have much thats unexpected, you lose much of the sneaky tricks you have in vanilla such as TO cammo infiltrators. Overall i find phalanx is strong as long as you know what to engage and what to avoid. hope this helps a bit.
  2. So for example im playing a 300pt limited insertion game and i have Patroclus in my 10 order list. but when i deploy him in echo state there are more models then the rules would normally allow, so would i be able to deploy 3 models or would i only be able to place one model?
  3. I think its part of there design, you have that built in risk that you wont always get your 4pt order, best bet is put them somewhere there isn't going to be a lot of traffic coming, then if your opponent goes hunting for your netrods its a win anyway as they are not dealing with your list.
  4. Thank you its good to see how other people are using it.
  5. I used the Marut in a game not long after i started playing and had the terrible experience of getting it taken out straight away and have never used it again. Now im wanting to try it in the limited insertion league i am playing in at the moment, this is my list: ALEPH ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 MARUT Lieutenant (Strategos L3) MULTI HMG, Heavy Flamethrower, Nanopulser / AP CCW. (3 | 120) KARKATA Flash Pulse / Knife. (0 | 0) PROXY Mk.2 Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 21) DASYU Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 37) PROXY Mk.5 (Forward Observer) 2 Submachine Guns, Nanopulser, E/M Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) ZAYIN Rebot HMG / Electric Pulse. (1 | 26) MYRMIDON OFFICER (Chain of Command) Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (1 | 36) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) THORAKITES (Forward Observer, 360º Visor) Submachine gun, Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13) LAMEDH Rebot Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) LAMEDH Rebot Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) NETROD . (0 | 4) 5.5 SWC | 299 Points Open in Infinity Army Can anyone tell me if this list is decent and any tactical advice or experiences they have had playing the Marut i could learn from? Thanks in advance!
  6. So i was playing a 200pt limited insertion game at the weekend the scenario was capture and protect. This was my first time playing this scenario my list was as follows: Steel phalanx 200pt links ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 1 MACHAON Lieutenant Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Eclipse Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW. (0.5 | 38) EUDOROS Mk12, Nanopulser, Eclipse Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 40) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) THRASYMEDES (Fireteam: Enomotarchos) Submachine gun, Light Rocket Launcher, Nanopulser, Flash Grenades / Pistol, Shock CCW. (0.5 | 30) THORAKITES HMG, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 22) THORAKITES (Forward Observer, 360º Visor) Submachine gun, Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13) THORAKITES (Forward Observer, 360º Visor) Submachine gun, Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13) NETROD Electric Pulse. (0 | 4) NETROD Electric Pulse. (0 | 4) 2.5 SWC | 196 Points Open in Infinity Army Unfortunately i cant remember my opponents list he was playing Nomads he won the roll of and decided to take turn order, i let him deploy first and took the side with the less exposed becon. Turn 1 Nomads: I realised straight away i had deployed badly allowing my opponent to move up his full force and connect the left hand console. on the plus side i lost nothing. Turn 1 steel phalanx: I decided to move forward my thorakite link team, my opponent reviled a intruder (i think) with HMG and managed to crit my HMG, moving the link team forward again and out of line of sight i lost thrasymedes to a second hit from the HMG. After that terrible start i decided to move up my myrmidon link and try get machon to the console so at the very least i wouldn't lose the game, first order i moved up out of line of sight of my opponets mobile brigada, second order on the same link i moved out and split fire between a HMG trooper on a roof, a hacker on ground level and another standard trooper in cover winning all the rolls and putting the one on the floor unconscious. at the end of all the exchanges i had managed to only leave the mobile brigada able to do anything but planned to drop smoke to stop any sustained attack on my remaining link. Unfortunetly due to the way the table had been the only stair case to the console i now needed involved getting very close to my opponent which caused the hard fight but thanks to the ODD and smoke grenades i had made it to the stairs with my second from last order. Turn 2 Nomad: I got very lucky here, with my link team close together on the stairs my opponent tried 5 attempts at spec firing a grenade from the intruder onto them 4 of them missing and 1 final taking out eudoros (he was on NWI from earlier wound). with his last couple of orders my opponent moved a model round to where my two sub machine gun Thorakites were and CC one of them leaving the other to have a unopposed shot which hit and put them to dead from shock ammo, the second thorakite took the cc hit and went down. the mobile brigada fired his multi rifle at machon who dodged and smoked the myrmidon shot his chain rifle hitting the brigada and took him out (he was only on one wound left) Turn 2 Steel phalanx: I ran machon up the stairs my opponent responded with a dodge strangely but i continued round to capture the console with a order reaming, we called the game there as we had no troops left capable to getting to the others beacon. Overall it was a fun game that should of fared a lot worse for me but what i keep looking at is against a smart opponent i don't see how you can capture there beacon without pretty much wiping them off the table. Whats other peoples impression of this scenario?
  7. I would be worried about anything with Camo, you have the sniffers to help discover but that mod will mean a lot of your firepower on the HMGs will miss. Personally i always like to take at least 1 thing with a MSV.
  8. Unfortunately at this time you are correct, that being said the starter boxes are pretty good. sorry i couldn't be any more help
  9. Dry brushing tends to leave a dirty look i find. I would recommend blocking in the highlight then using glazing to blur the edges. there are lots of videos on youtube that show you how to do it better than i can explain, try painting Buddha they have a video called layering and glazing that shows it well.
  10. I was wondering if anyone in the community feels like they have enough game experience to update this as far as i can see this is outdated now? I would do it but i feel i don't have enough knowledge to do it justice and this page was such a help when i started the game it seems a shame to leave it lost in the last edition.
  11. One of my early games in infinity was playing with the marut and boy was it a steep learning curve, that being said your list looks good, might struggle on button pushing missions but overall looks nice. Personally i would drop one of the netrods from each group put another lamedh into group one, even if it doesnt do anything and just hides the whole game its a extra order thats not going to scatter into your opponents face or off the board.
  12. As Snozz said said starting off at lower pts level is best i am currently taking part in a escalation league to learn, theres no need to jump into advance rules straight away get the basics down first. In fact a great way to learn if you have anyone else in the area who plays is the operation icestorm or the operation red veil boxes they introduce the game well and give you a idea of the different types of troops you see. As to getting the posthumans they are very good and used by most people who play aleph so you wont regret getting them.
  13. Thanks for the advice Phlyk, i will try that out.
  14. Steel Phalanx ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 9 MYRMIDON OFFICER Lieutenant Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser, Eclipse Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0.5 | 30) MYRMIDON Spitfire, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (1 | 31) MYRMIDON Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0.5 | 31) MYRMIDON Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 26) THRASYMEDES (Fireteam: Enomotarchos) Submachine gun, Light Rocket Launcher, Nanopulser, Flash Grenades / Pistol, Shock CCW. (0.5 | 30) THORAKITES Engineer Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 18) THORAKITES (Forward Observer, 360º Visor) Submachine gun, Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13) THORAKITES Paramedic (Medikit, 360º Visor) Submachine gun, Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 14) NETROD Electric Pulse. (0 | 4) 2.5 SWC | 197 Points Open in Infinity Army Currently i am thinking about this as a list. I like it at first glance but then worry i haven't got enough bite to deal with anything heavy armoured. SEIZE THE ANTENNAS COLD SLEEP TIC-TAC-TOE QUADRANT CONTROL CAPTURE AND PROTECT FRONTLINE FIREFIGHT THE ARMOURY Playing a mini learning the game league and these are the scenarios that could come up (only playing at 200pts Limited insertion). Is this a decent amount? im still quite a noob at this.
  15. I have been playing infinity for a little while now, mostly vanilla aleph but i want to play more steel phalanx my problem is every list i build feels far to offensive and not enough specialists. Does anyone else have this problem and what do people run as specialists in steel phalanx?
