Base Size - Med-Tech Obsidon Medchanoid

21 posts in this topic

Simple question - is yours bigger than mine?

:S

I very recently bought (new) a Med-Tech Obsidon Medchanoid, cracked open the clamshell, and found one of the new 25mm bases inside - the type where you have to cut the slit for the model's base-tab yourself.

I'd expected a 40mm base - that's what it looks like the studio model is based on: http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/en/2011/miniatures/obsidon-medchanoid/

Though the studio model has some fancy basing that raises it up, so I checked a different source.

I checked Penemue's invaluable unpacking thread (thanks Penemue) and it also looks like it should have a 40mm:

http://penofpenemue.blogspot.ca/2013/04/unpacking-combined-army-medtech-obsidon.html

I can't find any historic threads relevant to this.  So...

Should I be suffering from base-envy?  Is it a simple mis-pack - in which case I'll just use a spare 40mm?  Or have Medchanoids usually been packed with 25mm bases, and the one in the unpacking thread was unusual?  Or has the standard base size been changed recently?

Why do I care?

I should explain - I'm more interested in scenarios than annihilation games - and in some scenarios, where specialists have to perform functions like entering through narrow gates, the base size can make a difference.

I recently got a Medtech on a 25mm base, as well.
He fits fine, with little overhang (much less than the Noctifers), so i'm happy enough to use it.

Consider me very interested in this. Knowing he can get through the doors on Beacon Race would be the icing on the cake.

What what what? They definitely used to come on a 40mm base. Mine does and it was purchased in 2013. This definitely makes it more useful for objectives if so.

There have been occurrences of mispacks with 25mm bases in the past, which were confirmed to be incorrect. I would love them to change the official policy for that model, however.

Goddamnit.  :side:

Oh well, i'm not rebasing him, I just won't take him in Beacon Race.

Thanks for the responses.

The factor that threw me is that if it is a mispack, then it's not obvious, because the model fits really neatly on a 25mm base.

I had a good search for any historic clarifications, and wasn't able to find anything.

Ultimately, it's hardly the most important question in the world (how to cure disease, end poverty, achieve peace in the middle east, whether Luis Suarez dives) but...

...now to hear there are a few other people whose models came with 25mm bases, and seeing how neatly it fits, I think I'll do as Fathi Amirmoez has done, and just not allow myself to use the Medchanoid in any scenario like Beacon Race where he has to fit through the 30mm gate.

Has anyone ever compiled an "official" base size chart?  I'm aware how desperately sad I must sound to even type that...

Before doing that I'd contact CB in the same way as for missing parts, seems like a fuck-up on their part rather than a change in basing policy.

If they ever declare it an official policy change, I am rebasing mine so fast.

Lol, I think you guys that purchased the mis-packs are good to go, even in beacon race. The rules say to use the base supplied with the miniature, instead of listing corresponding base sizes with the unit profiles like they ought to. ;)

If a base change ever happens I thin it will be officially announced and stickied (and the majority of CA players will break in frantic celebrations, but that's another subject)

So I would say its a mispac.

In this company? You sound perfectly fine.

Now back to building my spreadsheet of miniture dimensions for cover purposes.

I emailed CB the first time I heard about the 25mm bases and got the answer that those are mispacks and the official party line is that 40mm still applies.

Here you go:

80mm: Maghariba Guard TAG

40mm: All other TAGs, all 4-legged remotes, CA drones, Traktor Muls, Haqq chickenbots, all motorcycles, Medtech Oblivious Bananoid, Haiduk, old-type Hungries, Antipodes, Cameronian, Dog-Warrior (werewolf form), Sogarat with Feuerbach, Ajax

40mm, possibly 25mm (depends on whether a 25mm base is packed in): Cateran, Moblot HMG, Zouave HMg, Zouave sniper, Paracommando LGL, Haiduk

25mm: everything else

Mine was also on a 25mm base and TBH I'm all for allowing that; it fits perfectly on the base and is no bigger than the average Morat so I can't see any reason to penalise the CA that way (not that I'm running mine at tournaments anyway).

There are no surprises in the reply I got.

The Medchanoids were packed with 40mm bases. A few months ago, some blisters were packed wrong with 25mm bases, but the official base is 40mm.

Nice to have it cleared up.

YES.  One day, in a moment of weakness, they will tell us that it has changed.
