Awol Paints 2 - Paint Harder

Loving it AWOL. I always like seeing WIP pics as it shows the stage by stage stuff you're working on which is always great to see. Just take your time with the cross on his chest, I'm sure it will be fine :)

Shish-kebab happens. Hope you not too upset with it. Actually I like how sword looks on first photo. Maybe you should paint downside in monotone dark colour, since strong highlight draws attention to this bend and makes it more evident as I think. OSL is nice you can leave it like that, better to concentrate efforts on shoulders. After all this mini looks really cool to me. Keep it up!

Leather is great, as is the stark white on the bigger patches of armour. I think it looks a little too flat on his leg, but that is most likely the light washing it out.

Great work mate, and glad to see you have a specialist to field finally!!

I'm not sure the blade is bent.  I think it is a trick of the white patch.

congratulations orange one! ;) good job with these greaves and scabbard! but show some love to your weapon! I see you have a photographic background. Could use more multipoint SOFT light and photo taken at higher shutter speeds and large aperture

Thanks guys!

Plexus: Cheers man, I've tweaked the weapon, added some shadows and such, and taken some new pictures. Sadly, there's not much to do about the shutter speed and aperture, I'm limited in the gear I have. While a proper camera is on the shopping list now that I have a job, that list is rather long after studying for nearly 7 years, so it'll be a while before my venerable Olympus from 2006 gets replaced.

Maru, thanks man. I'm pretty happy with the whites myself. What would you suggest doing about the black? I've gone with my traditional black+increasing amounts of skintone to get a dusty-ish black for the cloth and have a warmish contrast to the blue armour, but if you've got any ideas I'd love to hear them!

Slightly better pics, with the spot removed and deeper shadows added to the blade:

Of course, the white balance is a bit off - highlights are slightly dulled, but otherwise he's true to life.

I've started tossing some paint after a Kempei for the JSA force, in an attempt to mimic the esteemed Whisper who manages to get stunning results in no time.  He's just undercoated so far, but at least it shows you that I'm not slacking. :)

I hope to have him done tomorrow, as I'm off to Sweden for a week-long course monday, and then will be heading to Vienna over easter. Speaking of Vienna, I don't suppose any of you know the city, and if there's any infinty retailers there? I'd like to grab a model or two while I'm there - I prefer souvenirs that I can use. :)

There are several shops in Vienna that sell RPGs, Comics and Tabletop gaming stuff. The problem is that I don't know whether any sell Infinity.

except...

Siren Games have Infinity in their webstore, and the website says "Come visit us at our address", so they seem to have a brick and mortar store, too!
Address is: Friedmanngasse 13, 1160 Wien

If you like dinosaurs at all, you might want to see the Natural History Museum Vienna! Loved that as a kid! ;)

Another landmark to check out (if you're into that kinda thing) is the Wurstelprater, a kind of theme park in one of the recreational park areas of the city. No entry fee, as far as I remember, as it's a public space, but the rides individually cost money. According to that website, the Prater was the world's first amusement park!

Much appreciated guys! I wanted to update a few days back, but I'm currently in Sweden for a finance module course, and there's not much free time to say the least!

TerrorTigr, you Viennese? Or Austrian? You seem like you know your way around, thanks a bundle for the links. I'll be sure to check out the museum at the least, if I can drag the GF along. :)

Maru, cheers man. I've been through the MV site before, there's quite a bit of good stuff there and Ben Komets is always good.

After getting the KotHS done, I wanted to reduce the painting queue a bit. I opted for a couple of quick paintjobs, both to get them done and see if I could maintain a decent quality while speedpainting.

He's not quite up to the standard of the other JSA models, but he was quick to paint, and to be frank I've never liked the sculpt that much.

P3140951.JPG.4d575dabccab4fda1c0a8282109

Again, very quick paintjobs, but they'll do - it certainly beats the previous scheme of white spray and a bit of blue blocked in!

I even got started on a female paratrooper before I had to run out the door:

And with that, I think I'll crawl into bed before we start on audit technicalities tomorrow! :)

I'm in Sweden again, and that means update time. I've gotten near nothing done since last due to work and private stuff still being busy. What hobby time I've had has been spent playing and supporting the infinity milieu here, but that's fun too. :)

We had a mini convention here last weekend, and I had to get a magister knight painted real quick to have a demo list. This was fun, and I've been trying to push myself to paint faster despite the drop in quality, so I learned something too.

Mind you, I don't think he looks THAT bad, there's just some of the shadows, esp on the legs and sword that could be deeper. Might brighten the white too, if I find the time. Also, I've cheated on his base and still need to finish that.

He's good enough for a demo-game though. He went absolutely nuts when one of my opponents played him and singlehandedly butchered a Mobile Brigada, a Wildcat, Zero and an Alguacil. Managed to do it in about 4 orders as well.

All's good however, as I think the guy is planning to start playing now. :D

you know that base sux bad ?

and whites are a bit flat on scabbard   but beside this nice mini ..   just to clean for me it looks like a cleaning product advertisment :P

Thanks for the comment Maru!

Like I said, the base isn't finished. ;)
I assume you mean tabard? He's not got a scabbard, those are for people who want to do stuff that doesn't involve hitting people with exploding swords. As I found out when I demo'ed against him, he isn't one.

I'll concede the white's a bit flat, I'm working on it as well. You'll get no apologies for the clean look either, that's just how I like my stuff - at least the knights. :)

Update time:

OrderSgt.JPG.90f2681833c7856e0b1e3319c64

Still plugging away at the MO. I'm close to having a decent collection painted, and I might lose focus once that happens. I aim to finish off the models I've got going right now, my Order Sgts, the Magister link and possibly one or two others, then take a PanO break.

DeFersenWiP.thumb.JPG.0cfea9660f901c95bc

Gabriele is fun to paint! Really enjoying this once, despite my self-imposed no-dallying rule. I've been trying to get faster, so I've banned myself from redoing stuff, and it does help a bit.

(And if you're reading this Maru, don't worry too much - the base'll get dirtied up proper once he's done. :P)

Finally, a model that's giving me some trouble:

BulleteerWiP.JPG.8b04eac2288f74e4b4b03df

The blue is proving hard to get right, but it'll get there.

Next update will likely include some Ariadna, too. I played them in a tourney, and the Foxtrot FO I painted for the occasion did spectacularly well in the one game he was included in, spending three orders move-shooting every remaining specialist on my opponents side in a three-on-one-shootout, then spending my last two orders FO'ing the enemy HVT, winning me the game. I've left him at the club however, so grabbing pictures are hard.

Dang! Your little dolls are looking good. Can't wait to scratch up their paint job with a good spray of bullets :)

Just when I finally feel like I'm making real progress in improving my painting skills, you have to go and show me I've got a long ways to go. Stunning stuff man!

Thanks a bundle for the replies guys, I'm flattered!

@Regelridderen, Bring it mate. Deus Vult, with sword and cross. ;)

@MittenNinja, I think we all feel that way sometimes! You own Yu Jing is quite a sight too, to be sure.

@Ashigaru, thanks mate! How'd the Cancon thing go with your JSA?

Quick little update - I'm in Sweden (again) for a work course, but I grabbed some pics of the weekends work before I left so I could post from here.

I've started work on my USAriadna, and I hope to complete them on the side while working on the PanO. The scheme I've found is luckily well suited to quick paintjobs:

Marauder.JPG.46cb6e59d2dc01a925d912154c0

I can see this guy being a favorite - Rifle + Heavy Flamer on an ARM3 unit with forward deployment simply sounds fantastic for 21 points.

De Fersen has also progressed a bit, but at this point I'd like your input:

DeFersenWiP2.JPG.60d6a42ded27af1530a8262

Obviously, I need to complete some freehand on the tabard, the shoulders and the base, which also needs dirtying, but I'm torn on the sword. Normally I'd go reflective red to give some contrast to the blue armour, but De Fersen already has a fair bit of red on him. I'm considering purple, and Maelstrom suggested green, but I'm unsure how it'd fit in with the army. I could also go orange, or even just regular NMM. I'd appreciate hearing your opinions!

Wow, love the colour scheme. Simple but effective :) And yeah, Arm3... Bloody USAridana!

CanCon was a mixed bag. Started off losing 10-0, then lost 6-2. Then it all made sense! Won 10-0, lost 6-4 in a super closer game and then smashed through the final one with a 10-0 win :) The army has been shelved for now though. I'm concentrating on Military Orders for a slow grow. I really should go back and finish the JSA though :P I'm soooo lazy!

Haha, yeah, some of the US units look really fun to play.

Cancon sounds like a blast tho, you posting your MO? Don't think I've seen them?

I haven't been yet, kind of embarrassed at the state of them so far (3 models are assembled...) but will be looking to rectify that this weekend when I'm at my parents. No PC so all hobby!!
