New Player - Want to make an all female list

25 posts in this topic

Hi everyone.  This is my very first post to the forums.  I just purchased the icestorm battlebox.  I picked Nomads as my starting faction due to all of the cool looking female models.  Being a female wargamer myself I like to field armies that are mostly women.  I especially like the look for the reverend models and absolutely love the look of the healer model that came in icestorm.  I also like the looks of the riot grrls.  Does anyone have a good suggested 100-200pt list for me to expand to after I finish these starter missions in icestorm?  I like the idea of having all women but if I need one male model to cover a base, I am not totally opposed.  Oh I also have a hard copy of the N3 rules due to arrive by the end of the week as well as some nifty templates from warsenal.  Thanks in advance!

Hi there!

Nice idea about themed list. Just be prepared to do a lot of converting and proxying, as there's only so much female sculpts, and they won't all be carrying the weapons you'd like to use.

Thanks to the nature of the Nomad faction you could also get away with using models from other factions and converting/painting them to fit the Nomad style for the ultimate 'ragtag band of misfits' style ;)

First question would be which army do you want to play - vanilla Nomads, or any of the sectorials. Mentioning Reverends and Riot Grrrls would indicate that Bakunin might be a good for you, and there's a lot of female sculpts already there, so...

moderators_from_bakunin_logo_small.pngMODERATORCombi09
reverend_moiras_logo_small.pngREVEREND MOIRALieutenant130
zeros_logo_small.pngZEROMinelayer0.519

This is 100 pts/2 SWC list that should give you the basics; You can use existing Moderator models and convert the missing ones, especially Spitfire, as it's a male model. Your Healer can act as a Moira without problem, and there's a female Zero sculpt that could be used as minelayer.

riot_grrls_logo_small.pngRIOT GRRLSpitfire235
sin_eater_observants_logo_small.pngSIN-EATERMk12030

150 pts/3 SWC list - Custodier is one of the best Lt's in Bakunit, Riot Grrrl adds some punch, and Sin-Eater (you'd have to convert it or play with what's available, since all models are male - that's also their fluff).

zeros_logo_small.pngZEROMinelayer0.519
prowlers_logo_small.pngPROWLERCombi0.532
reverend_moiras_logo_small.pngREVEREND MOIRAEMitter028

199 pts/4 SWC - this one gives you full 10 orders to play with, and won't require many more purchases (again, you'll have the Prowler to convert if you want a female one)

All those lists were created with either straight annihilation games or unofficial objective systems, like YAMS or 20x20 in mind. Official Infinity mission system, ITS, can be quite restrictive as it requires you to field specialist troops - hackers, doctors, engineers, Forward Observers, etc, and require a very specific approach - you'd probably want to get some games under your belt before going for ITS.

Aside from main N3 rulebook you'll need the expansions from 2nd edition - Human Sphere and Campaign: Paradiso. Their rules are available for free in the Downloads section of the main page, you can also find more resources there - a short FAQ and Human Sphere weapon list for example.

Good luck with your army ;)

You could try the Bakunin sectorial if you wanted, but there's enough to make it work in the wider nomad range. One thing that may be worth looking into is Cho-konnit or Shae-konnit (can't remember what he calls himself on here) split box thread, its under the info from distributors forum. If you just want girls you'll find many come in sets with dudes in them, so from konnit you can just the the girls.

My general suggestion would be to look at vanilla nomads at first. There's more options in there and is in some regards simpler without the sectorials additional rules. You also have a wider model range to choose from of course. Bakunin is also a bit tricky to use some find. But if you really like the reverends and want to run a link team of them, go for it.

Other than what's been mentioned, Zoe&π well are a good duo to get. Support units like doctors and engineers are useful to have, Zoe is a character engineer so can work as that, and there are 2 female doctors available (daktari). Warband units like the morlock are nice and if you feel a bit aggressive, the uberfalkommandos. There's 2 female morlocks and the leader of the uberfalkommandos is female (of sorts), but they're all furries anyway. Looks more animal-like than male.

There's also the robots if you like the look of them. It's perfectly viable to make an army that invests heavily in them if you want to. In terms of lists, it could be good to finish the ice storm missions first, see how things play out and what you like the look of. If you have a particular theme or style you want to follow it makes it a lot easier to suggest lists that may be to your liking. Even with just females, the options are very broad which makes it somewhat difficult.

Thank you both for the wonderful and well thought out responses.  Very helpful.  Seems like a nice community here!  I am probably getting ahead of myself asking all these questions before I have even read the core rule book.  Quick question:  How picky are people in official events about the model having the correct weapon represented?  Let's say one of my girls was listed as having a combi rifle but the model on the table had a grenade launcher or something.  Would I be prohibited from using that model?  I am not the best at conversion work...

I definitely recommend the Uberfallkommandos. The leader (the Chimaera) is an undercover police officer whose job it is to investigate illegal fighting rings by infiltrating them. Her pupniks are human/animal hybrids. They basically have the minds of animals. She's a serious badass and very effective in game. Bakunin or Vanilla nomads are definitely your best choices if your goal is an all female list. I'd say tohaa because they have a ton of females, but they have a handful of very important units that only come in male flavor right now, like the sakiel and makaul.

I myself enjoy fielding many female models, although I'm not sure why. Ariadna actually has a pretty good amount, in particular Merovingia, but not quite to the extent of being able to do 100%. Margot Berthier is also one of the biggest badasses in the game. I think she is the only normal human who shoots at 14's. Everyone else that shoots that well is power armored/mutated/a robot/alien in some way for the most part. Merovingia has at least some females for almost every type of troop they get. Plenty of female Moblots, even a female Briscard, although many people are not aware that she is a she.

So I guess I would ask if you'd like a female badass hero list, or one that's all females, but might not have as many big personalities. I think bakunin could give you some of  both with Zoe and Kusanagi.

Proxy all you want with weapon loadouts. Not every loadout has a figure to represent it, so if your opponent has a serious problem with it they're just being a jerk.

Nice idea! I'm building a similar thing using Reverend Moiras, Reverend Custodiers, Reverend Healers, Riot Girls, Zeros, Zoe, Female Moderators and Morlocks. It's actually quite a capable group of troops and they are all Bakunin so it isn't that difficult at all. Bakunin have a bit of a girl power vibe going on anyhow. If you're happy to have a male drone as their ever loyal servant, Sin Eaters and Uberfallkommando solve this role quite well too!

As mentioned above, reasonable proxies are generally fine in Infinity, no one will question that a figure has a multi rifle instead of a combi as long as it looks reasonably similar (at least in my meta). If it's really different without a good justification (missile launcher model with profile that is armed with pistol) just make sure your opponent is clear / ok with it. As mentioned above the irregular nature of Nomads gives us a bit more license too. For example I've bought female Myrmidon and Dasyus Hackers, Chandra (with head swap) and some Asuras to be my riot grrls because I don't really like the proper models. Paint them so they look like they go together as a squad and it's clear what they are and most won't notice, and the few that do will be happy for you to do something a little more interesting (at least in my experience). The Aleph range has some really nice female sculpts, which are nice to take advantage of. Plus you can always make a very minor change and call it a conversion, then no one can argue (not that they really do).

Also one model not mentioned above if you are going vanilla nomads is the female tomcat doc as well as Carlotta Kowalski. Not sure if there is a female Hellcat but I'd guess so. Badass Bitches Falling From the Sky! :)

Oh I forgot about Carlotta, she's fantastic! Tomcat's are always a good investment, and yes, there is a female Hellcat, and she is a very high quality miniature.

From the Corregidor line - one Tomcat, one Hellcat, one Carlota Kowalsky, two Wildcats and three Alguaciles. Corregidor is mostly male, I guess women end up in jail less often ;)

Concerning proxys: The official ITS rules states that if a weapon-loadout has an actual model published (and not being OOP) you must use it. The exception is conversions which are based on Infinity models (non-Infinity conversions are not allowed). In practice it varies from Organiser to Organiser, so if you concact them beforehand I think you could make agreements / compromises about proxies easily. For non-ITS tournies (still uses ITS scenarios but dosen't count to the global ITS-Points) and especially normal games you could proxy freely, just use proxied models consistently for smoother gameplay ;) !

PS: Apart from the Iguana all of the  Nomad TAG pilots are females. If you have the urge to bring something realy stompy time to time :P .

Love the idea, when you get the group together please show them off!

BTW, I am not sure the Iguana pilot is a male, or the Brigada... under all that armour you can just say it is a badass girl down there. In particular de Iguana pilot, being slightly smaller, has already been converted to be a female HMG Mobile Brigada and it looked great. I am seriously considering it too.

On proxying, the paint scheme of your models goes a long way towards "selling" the model as the unit it is proxying for, especially if that set of models does not have a particular loadout you want to run. I did this with my YJ. I wanted to run a Zhanshi ML, but they don't have a model for that, so I took the Keisotsu ML model and painted it in the same uniform color scheme I had for Zhanshi. Aside from having the baggy hakama pants, it looks like it goes with the rest of the Zhanshi I've got on the table. I'm not the best at converting either, so when proxying models, paint schemes help a lot visually for both players, and is fairly easy to achieve.

I think I will go Vanilla since I am a new player.  I have heard that is a good way to start.  I will make sure to get some pictures up once I have pieced together an army :)  I will also likely post my list just to make sure I haven't done something drastically wrong.  Thanks for the responses on conversions and official rules.  It sounds like typically there isn't an issue even at official events as long as you check first with the organizer.

What do you guys think of this as my starting list.  I want to be able to play ITS so I tried to make sure I had specialists.

Looks fine!  I'd be sure to hide the Alguacil in cover and prone somewhere and make him look like a cowering LT.

Play this a lot though and see how it works for you.

Rinse.

Repeat.

Adjust according to taste.

I would love to see a third custodier model, preferably kneeling and shooting so we can get some nice cloth folds to paint and finally get the most badass link team in the game

I do mostly conversion, and 90% female :P

I feel like this army needs either music from sucker punch or anything dealing with charlies angels playing in the background.

I wish they'd make a mini like that again because silhouettes.  I'm bored with folks milling about, pointing, or bro fisting.

CB has some AMAZING sculpts in this game. But they do need to step away from the milling pointing fisting tactical rock aesthetic.

And sculpt more females. I was disappointed the HMG Intruder was male.

@ O P, I dig your idea, and look forward to its execution. I haven't seen the Interventor brought up.  Not only is it another female model, but also one of the more recent and high quality sculpts to boot.

Gamefreak I totally agree that their should be theme music.  I also kinda want to superimpose an image of my models after they painted over a back ground from Charlie's Angels.  That would be epic....

Nomads is definitely the faction to do an all female force with, and they have loads of great options for that. All of the Reverends, for a start! Vanilla is probably a better option because you only really lose the Moira link, which is great but expensive, and you gain the option to take the excellent Carlotta Kowalsky and Lupe. Both of them are really good additions, IMO. Other than that I'd get a selection of Moiras, Custodiers and Healers, a Chimera, Zoe and Pi-Well and just put it together however you like.
