Heavy Infantry 300pts List - advice needed

8 posts in this topic

Greetings my state-empire friends,

I have a 300pts tournament going on the 17th of December, and I would need your advice on which list is best for the overall scenarios :

-Safe area

-Antenna Fields

-Supplies

(I restricted myself to those two list because: 1) I play Yu Jing mainly for HI / 2) I wanted to have a bit more tools with some badass infantry that could play an infiltrate role/ 3) because I love the models ;)/ 4) I don't necessarily play competitive)

Here are my 2 lists from which I need to choose one:

In my opinion I would take the 1st list with a little modification: Take a BSG Daofei, slap in another Pangguling / Yaokong and upgrade one of the Zhanshi to a Doctor or Engineer.

I love the sheer brutality of list 1.

Typically I find the use of a hac tao and Daofei slight overkill.

You could easily fit in 2 Weibings and a Ninja Killer Kacker for the same cost as the Hac Tao.

The Weibing are excellent Specialists and the Sensor ability and Repeater, pair well with the other units.

I'm really of the opinion that if you are going to go for a low order count you really need to have link teams. Otherwise you just simply will not have enough orders to do missions.

So after trying this list at my 300 tournament, I seem to have learned and experienced a lot of things:

-1/ I should never underestimate extremely impetuous and impetuous troops ( I faced in 2 games Daturazis and Haramakis that I mostly ignored or didn't anticipated)

-2/ Use a fireteam of Zhanshis (with CAP weapons) at least, to keep a solid regular order pool

-3/ You don't necessarily need heavy firepower to compensate the numeric disadvantage HI list have (Instead of having 2 other Zuyong with HMG, I think 3 Zuyong with Combir rifle and Forward observer would've been better)

I played against US Aridna, Morat and a nearly mirror list of Yu Jing.

Agreed.

Yeah, mission wise, this is the better option, but as I stated, I was focused on HI

A doctor would have been very helpful actually :P

Better late than never ;) .

Still I learned valuable stuff from the tournament and try to make better future HI lists at 300pts.

Zhanshis can't link. Low order count is absolutely fine without links, but your lists seems to be missing ARO firepower, DA/EXP firepower and seems to be far too many of the same type of threat in general. If the enemy finds one way to counter either of your units, they'll probably walk over all of your other units. Units to try:
1. Guilang/Ninja sniper
2. Husong
3. Proper doctor (Tokusetsu is my choice)
4. Lu Duan or Rui Shi

And let's be harsh and realistic; you probably have to slim your list down to 2 maybe 3 heavy infantry or drop the expensive HI.

More than this; well impossible to give advice given the extremely many unknowns (like terrain, scenarios, general info on other people's playstyles, and how you specifically play which is probably the hardest for you to communicate.)

@Section 9 occasionally posts his list of criteria for army lists, that could also help (I don't have it at hand, so I can't link, but do browse his post history and you'll eventually come across a mastodont of useful information)

You called?

I have 4 rules of thumb for listbuilding in Infinity:

  1. Orders.  You need to start your first turn with at least 8 orders in your primary combat group.  This means not taking more than 2 AD or Hidden Deployment models (or one of each).  I should mention here that I don't ever just include a model to provide an order.  It *always* has another purpose.  My typical example is something like a Bao Sniper.  I usually use him in ARO, so I can often use his order somewhere else, but I don't take a model just to stand around and "cheerlead".
  2. Guns.  You should spend your SWC, but the point is actually have guns with range bands other than the basic rifle.  Shotguns, marksman rifles, etc.  You want all the places you can be at a +3 where someone else isn't you can get!
  3. Speed.  This doesn't just mean sheer MOV stat, this also includes deployment options like AD or Infiltration.  What we're talking about is units that spend the fewest number of orders to do what you need.  You shouldn't spend 5 orders moving an HMG up if you can get a combirifle there in 2.
  4. Specialists.  You need people to accomplish the mission, whatever the mission is.  These are your hackers, doctors, engineers, forward observers, Chain of Command, etc.  Keep track of what your mission actually is, it's rarely just "kill the other guy".

And these categories can mix.  You can have fast guns (like the typical Total Reaction HMG or Aragoto spitfire), and fast specialists (Aragoto hacker, Ninja hacker, etc)
