What would you like in the next linkable Tohaa MI?

20 posts in this topic

Since the Tohaa forum has been chirping with ideas about new TAGs and phackers, I am curious what we would like in the next linkable Medium Infantry for Tohaa

Basing this off recent trends typified by Sukeul Commandos.

What I'd like: 10 other Tohaa profiles not to go obsolete.
What I'd expect:

Brokeul second line conscripts

AVA:Total, marksmanship level 2, 2 wounds of symbiont active, ARM 3, ODD, Specialist operative, shock marksman rifles base upgrade to Feuerbach. This is fair because it's 4-2 with fire vulnerability.

My wish list:

Phacker.

I'd like access to another vulkan shotgun, or maybe a viral shotgun, maybe both on separate profiles, and a decent bs to go with it.

I'd say a melee unit, but I can't imagine a case where I take it over a makaul so scratch that.

Maybe a more sniper focused unit than the gao-rael, give it a multi-sniper mimetism+msv or just ODD.

I really just want more viral weaponry, but not exclusively, and our phacker, it's all I can think about.

I see Le Muet as a good starting point to design a new Tohaa unit, but I see it more as a non-linkable unit: ODD Symbion Armour and Forward Deployment, Minelayer and MSV options, CD12 (leave CD13+ to a few elite troopers like the Sukeul or the Ectros)...

We already have like 8 different linkable troopers, that let us min-max between profiles, equipment, habilities... CD13+Mimetism+Linked+Heavy Weapons+Symbiont Armour+Smoke+Specialist+Symbiomates+Symbiobombs is already a very powerful combination, so I don't think we'll ever get another Sukeul (Sukeul 2.0, now with ODD and Multi Ammunition).

This would be super nasty, I love it

You're right, but he can't link, and he just completely slipped my mind because I don't own him.

MI would be interesting for Tohaa. At the moment the two we have are our Gao Tarsos (AD) and Gao Rael (linkable).

I agree with what's said above we have link options. What about an MI limited camo+infiltration trooper with symbioarmour? Would give us a way to deliver symbiomate/symbiobomb up close. The 4-2 move would stop craziness with alpha bombing but still be nasty. Giving it specialist options might be cool as well.

Well, I am more curious what another linkable MI would look like.  Since Campaign Paradiso, I've been expecting another MI to totey about wth the Gao-Rael.  Also I do see the Gao-Rael is much more popular nowadays than the old days.

I think:

Is a very good direction, along with a Specialist option.  An MI would be good for a "combat specialist" to fit in.  E.g. Nanoscreen, Nanopulser, Breaker Combi, Paramedic, Gao-Tarsos statline?

Nice, but probably a little bit expensive, around 35-40 points I'd say.

How would Marksmanship X work with Linkable? It's one of those skills I really don't get.

It was one of those skills that seemed useful for Tohaa since we can't raise our BS with link team bonuses, but forcing us to drop the Burst to 1 to make a shot like that would keep people from complaining about link team bonus abuse since we can have so many link teams. That was my thought anyway. The other thought I had was just to give the unit an X-Visor.

And the Taqeul! (not that we will see a miniature for it until 2020)

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition Taqeul.

The Sukuel. Bitch should totally be an MI as a balance tweak imo.

Otherwise, what exactly are we missing from our lineup?

Maybe something without symbio-armour. Really emphasize the MI as a seperate class of troop. In that case I wouldn't mind a minelayer type ability (you can never have too much DZ defense) and weapons that are effective for fighting TAGs.

Would need to be a real gear mule, as anything remotely generalist will be outclassed by our various undercosted multi-wound specialist combi rifles. Give it like that crappy EM pistol, a light shotgun, MSV1 maybe some type of non-nimbus grenades and a light flamer or nanopulsar. Then of course give it regular impetuous for a free discount because who is going to pay any points for anything in Tohaa? We have such good cheap options and anything 30pts plus needs to contend with the fucking Sukuel.

If we assume standard triads look like  swc-specialist-filler

We have pretty stellar options for our weapon platforms, I cant see anything dislodging those without being horrifically undercosted.

Specialists are already well covered by either a kaeltar/kamael or the sakiel/kosuil options depending on where you intend to send the triad. Again these are so good the only thing I can see shunting these out would probably be a Kosuil type with doctor instead of engineer.

So the third slot is probably the area with the most wiggle room. So what could push out the goodness that is a Makaul? Perhaps a natural pheroware user maybe something with satlock or neurocinetics.

Something that could be fun is a low ava linkable mi with some form of forward deployment.  They start up the board and can be integrated into triads that have broken once the action starts.

Edit: What it absolutely does not need is regeneration, its such a bloat skill that really seems to be weighing on the popularity of both Keesan and the Taquel.

Since Kaeltar are "Wizard Apprentices" I´d like to see a "Wizard", i.e. Corathaar Lvl 2 something. A supportive linkable MI without Symbiont Armor, but a variation of T:Pherowar choices a'la wizard schools, and light weaponry. Pistol, Combi, Arm 2 and some various load outs of Pherowar stuff to make them feel like Tohaa "hackers" .

Another MSV 1 and maybe another doctor profile. Or specialist operative.

While I totally second the need of having a Corahtar L2 Phacker, I think we need to have another trooper armed with Pheromonic weaponry. Because, come on, this is the Tohaa hallmark technology, we should have more of it. Probably this would be a Phacker, but I could see the technology being used elsewhere (Taqeul being an example).
