Hi all.

I'm currently uhm-ing and ah-ing over playing Tohaa as my second faction (having pretty much sold off everything other than my main faction, Combined) and I wouldn't mind some input on players on what to expect. Looking over the faction there's a ton of special rules which I really like, as those are the sort of enjoyment I get from the game in playing Combined, plus I get to be a DDA (Double Dirty Alien) Player.

Anyone mind some input to put me off or on it? My other choice would have been Nomads, but I'm finding I don't get that excited by them anymore.

Im only just starting out but if its the special rules that draw you a word of caution that everything ive heard suggests that there is going to be somthing  of an overhaul with the next book

Do it.  Great playerbase and the sweetest fluff and the coolest design.  And you get the hacking immunity of Ariadna with the wound immunity of Yu Jing.  Great cross-proxying into Combined Army, too.

I hope it's not too much of a change. I like where Tohaa are placed at the moment :)

The biggest amount of special/unique rules.

Not the best firepower or armour, but incredible resilience for their price.

Lots of different combinations of fireteams (Triads) that you build depending on what you want to achieve.

Forget about hacking or being hacked.

It'lll be our little secret.

So I got my mates stuff out of the case and sat down to figure out what and where everything is:

4x Chaksa Auxiliars
2x Kaauri Sentinels
2x Kaeltar Specialists
-2x SymbioMates
-2x SymbioBombs
7x Kamael Light Infantry
1x Kerail Preceptors
-2x Surda Symbiobeasts
2x Kosuil Assault Pioneers
2x Kotail Mobile Unit
1x Nikoul  Ambush Unit
2x Rasail Boarding Team
-2x Chaksa Peripherals
1x Sakiel Regiment
1x Tohaa Diplomatic Delegates

1x Gao-Rael Unit
1x Ectros Regiment
1x Neema Saatar
2x Clipsos Infiltrators
1x Igao

4x Makaul Troops

There's also a Gorgos assistant but no Gorgos (lol) So I'll use one of my CA tags for that. Seems like a really good base to work off though!

Maybe something like this to get me started?

Only going with one Triad to try so many shiny toys and I can tweak from there. My usual go to for a starter mission is something like Supplies or Seize the Antenna. Easy mission to learn with things and not optimize it too much.

I think it looks solid, though I think limiting yourself to one triad is kind of avoiding part of the strength of Tohaa. The Rasail lt. is an awesome choice - it is solid, and the peripheral can do work if you don't want to risk the Rasail. I love the Kerail and Sudras - I always take two Sudras and they always cause havoc since I run them aggressively and on a flank. Unless you switch the Kaeltar to group 1, I don't see where you are forming your triad. I also tend to run the Kotail as a spitfire - super mobile means it can threaten a flank with the Sudras very effectively and Holiness holoprojector lends it some safety. I tend to find that it helps me to think of Tohaa as a slightly more durable LI army and try to run it like that - models can soak fire and are durable, but tend to fold quickly if your opponent focuses on individuals. The extra burst with lots of triads really helps with that trade-off.

Oh brain fart, for some reason I keep thinking the Rasail has Triad and the Kaeltar doesn't. I'll put the Kaeltar into Group 1 and throw the Neurocinotics Chaksa in the second one. Should fix that up.

Honestly I was going to go for the second Triad but it was starting to break my brain with so many special rules going on. I'll make a second list in a few days so I've got two to pick from, with less shiny pieces for sure. What sort of groupings do you run for Triads? Makauls in each seems fairly common place.

I went for the specialist on the Kotail because the Spitfire was going to be my default option, but I want to give him a go being a specialist as he'll be up the table doing the business anyway. Plus I guess he can super jump forward observer for the Smart HRL, which seems like a huge trap but I can't resist trying it.

Gao-Rael Spitty & the Kerail seems like a nice combo as well, especially with the Gao getting the +1B from Triads!

Pros: Using Tohaa.

Cons: Assembling and painting Tohaa.

It doesn't look too awful. Not great though musing over this stuff.

I'm gonna bin the Smart HRL out of that list for a second Kaauri I think, the chance of it firing is so indefinitely small I'll skip it!

Tohaa have well hard light infantry and excel in attrition combat, is my experience

Flood them with multi-wound LI etc

Just a heads up with the Tohaa Diplomatic Delegates.

With this model you can run

logo_30.pngSWITCH 2 E/Mitter / 2 Stun Pistols, Knife. (0 | 14)

it has no model...so technically you own it already :)

then holo lvl1 him as a delegate nasty little trick as no one expects a hacker in tohaa...especially a KHD and if you do not use the irregular order command token it into a regular order.

Great fun to play, I won 10-1 after brute forcing my way through PanO but got a few rules wrong in the process. Played against NCA with a 5 man Bolt team which makes Viral weapons really sad. I completely forgot about SymbioMates (lol) and the fact my Rasail had Nanoscreen so kept her back all game. Need to remember that!
