Starting Marat with the special bundle

I have picked up one of the 50 euro bundles from the promotion on the Corvus Belli store and am looking for a bit of advice on what would make a decent 300pts starter list from the set and what should I look towards adding straight away.

Having Kornak (Lt), the Raktorak and the HMG Suryat running arround in a Harris fireteam seems a logical starting point as it can kill things and grab objectives, whilst the 3 vanguard seem lacking unless I go out and get Anyat and a missile or sniper vanguard to go to a team of 5.

Yep the "negative" thing about this pack is that it starts two fireteam:core (4 daturazi & 3 vanguard) but allows no complete one without proxying.

So, good choices for expanding... The drones box and/or DrWorm ? Plenty of specialists, this way. And do not hesitate to proxy, to try different things (we almost have the Haris with Kornak + 2 Sogarat, a few Daturazi can act as your missing vanguards, ...)

As far as I can tell the Daturazi dont really need the fireteam, they have no weapon that needs extra burst and have reaonable output for their points so they can function under their impetuous order as melee threats.

At the moment I'm sort of sold on being pure Morat so want to avoid Dr Worm (I obviously hate winning and sucess) but that means I have to weigh up taking a Kurgat who feels like a waste of points for what he brings

I'm not too worried about specialists as they are quite abundant in the MAF but if I take the HI to do some heavy listing I should probably give them a bit of protection.

I think the Daturazi make a great core team. They take advantage of much a fireteam offers, They don't charge ahead turn one giving you time to remove threats. They are very good close combat troops which benefit from getting across the table. Moving together for one order and generating one ARO suits them perfectly. Once they get stuck in, breaking the fireteam and using their impetuous trait is another option.

I almost always use two core fireteams in MAF. Either Hungries or Daturazi and one other. I swap between them using command tokens.

I'd suggest getting a box of drones, 2xIkadrons, and the Vanguard box. The Onyx box is also a good idea. Having a good base of cheap orders to choose from then proxy the more expensive ones gives you a chance to see what you like first. A Q-Drone is always worth considering.

I had bought the Suryat box and the sogarat one just for how awesome they were 2 weeks before this bundle came up, so when I saw it it was an instant buy. Now probably I have to go for Dr. Worm cause it's the basic support unit for morat. I always wanted to include in a single game a suryat core and a sogarat Haris team ;) even if it doesn't work in the end.

I do love the idea of running Suryat and Sogarat fireteams together but it does sound like a little risky.

So far from what I start with in the bundle along with a couple of proxies I'm going to try the following and work out what specialist units and roles I need to fill after a bit of play testing.

The more I fiddle with the numbers the less the contents feel like a cohesive force in and of itself but it feels absolutely brilliant for building upon.

Imho I would rather take Missile launcher than K1 sniper rifle, because K1 sniper rifle is bad against units with Arm < 3. ML is cheaper point wise and it is more universal weapon. Or I would try to find 1 point somewhere and take HMG in the vanguard fireteam.

The extra HMG in the vanguard fireteam may be overkill with the suryat in the harris already packing one but the missile launcher sounds like a good shout. I'll have to find a way to convert one up until I get the vanguard special weapon box.

I have the Onyx army and extras and Dr. Worm to flesh it out as well. But good to know.

Not really. Suryat haris cannot be everywhere, so another high burst weapon in your core link team give you option to attack things that are outside of the operation space of your Suryat harris team. HMG in the Vanguard link team can help you safe some orders in situations when you need to kill something dangerous and Suryat haris is on the other side of the table. Personally I wouldn't be afraid and use both ML and HMG in vanguard fireteam.

Drop the K1 Sniper for the HMG and change the Daturazi Combi to the Boarding Shotgun. The HMG in the 5 man link is B5 with +3 to hit. Yeah, it's hard want to take that kind of Vanguard, but the link makes it well worth it. And, more dice is always better.

The CR Daturazi is on his own, but he's there as a threat not to score. Getting those 11 orders in the main pool is well worth the sacrifice of the Daturazi.

I like the looks of that list and two B5 guns would be fun. Even by itself I suppose the Daturazi in group 2 can also provide smoke with relative ease with the two orders it gets per turn.

Yaogat are a great add, look at them for the haris option. A five man is tempting to run, and fun, but you can get a lot out of the three man. 

The Zerat FO is a good unit to have for objectives. The mines also help a lot in area denial.

I am kind of in the same situation as I also aquired the reduced pack. My plan is also to expand with yaogats as a 3 guys link with snipers for board controlled and shooting through smoke trick with the daturazi.  I also proxies a rasyat for eclipse smoke, which worked really well. But my main reason to take one of those was that my opponent played Aleph and I expected an asura.  Turned out to be a marut but eclipse helped nonetheless

my friend play steal phalanx so yaogat seam a must. i hear gakis are great point wise too.

i will also start with haris - kornak - suryat - raktorak. nice agressive and objective grabing fire team. with sogarat providing ARO.

Unfortunately, you can't have a Kornak Haris with a Raktorak. :(

Nope, you can have Kornak Haris with a Raktorak. Look at Infinity wiki. It was confirmed by IJW Wartrader as change made by Interruptor after release of the HS N3.

It's one of the rare times they made an update to the PDF's but not Army. It's getting really old that Army hasn't been updated.
