Interplanetario Lists/Batreps

17 posts in this topic

So now that the dust is settling I thought it might be interesting to see what people were running at the Interplanetario this weekend, chatting to people suggested there was quite a mix of stuff.

Anyway heres mine with 'gasp' no ten order group. Overall it did pretty well and only dropped one Tp over four games, I did run a Gorgos list for show of force however switch disguised as an orc troop aro crit with an emiter which put an end to that game. Its not built for classifieds as I dont think we excel at them anyway and most of the smash your opponent missions make secure hvt fairly attractive. I managed to go second every match which plays to the lists strengths. Its a pretty straightforward case of minmaxed triads with only a sniper kamael thrown in as extra as i wasnt sure what else to spend points on.

Could you expand on how you play the list. Who are the mates going to, what's your general plan for each triad?

Yes please!  Also how did two kerails work out, and what was the reason you put the kaauri in the 2nd group?  What gave you the most headache, unit/opponent/mission-wise, and what were you able to handle without too much trouble?  Anything you would have done differently in hindsight?  So yeah basically can you do a detailed batrep for all of your matches so nubs like me can learn how the big boys play?   Not like they take a long time to write or anything...  ;D

Okay so I'll scribble up the games as I remember them, the group dynamics are so as to give some teeth to the Sakiel triad or to allow me to clear a path with the main group Sukeul/Gao-Rael and then follow up with the dogs, 6 orders on a Kerail team can do some real damage against a poorly deployed opponent.

The above is an approximation of my opponents list, I don't remember it exactly but most of the big threats were there. My only gripe this game and its something that came up against all my Spanish opponents was a lack of a courtesy list, its a bit of a pain in the arse especially when the clock was as tight as at the Interplanetario. I think previous years this had been supplied by the event but was left out this time, its absence comes up later this round.

The tables at Interplanetario have a bit of a reputation for being a little spartan, I suspect this is as much down to the difficulty of supplying enough painted terrain as it is by design. At any rate I had built the list with this in mind and was rewarded by playing on the below monstrosity, all the cover was difficult mountainous terrain and the river was difficult aquatic. This had the irritating effect of making it impossible to move into cover and then into lof with one order, you had to move to cover, stop and then spend a new order to move out and shoot. Or, just shoot as you moved into the cover. Achilles and the Sukeul both chose mountainous from their multi terrain.

BMe01dq.jpg

My opponent deployed first on the side with the skull, a few models were peaking out of cover including the devabot, a myrm of some description and trashymedes.

I responded by covering the bot and Drakios's approach with the kamael sniper. Gao-Rael cast his beady eye over the myrm, seeing the lack of msv2 in his list I put a kerail out in the open just in front of the gao-rael. Everyone stayed as far away from Trashy's lrl as possible with a kerail unit sent to cover that flank.  Achilles and Nikoul round out deployment. The mates are on Gao-rael, Sukeul, Sakiel and Nikoul throughout the event.

Aleph Turn 1 sees the Gao-Rael flubbing normal rolls against a retreating myrm whilst the kerail plopped smoke onto Rael denying a huge swathe of board and preventing the albedo twins from engaging it.

Achilles started moving up whilst shooting the Nikoul, 6 orders later the sniper finally gave up the ghost whilst our golden haired aggressor was down to 1 wound, good show from the sapper.

Tohaa turn 1. Kamel snipes deva, Gao-rael kills Machaon and Sukeul finishes achilles.

Aleph turn 2 was fairly ineffective, Drachaos failed to kill a kerail team and an exposed sakiel. Ajax and co moved up and killed a Kerail team opening a box on the way.

Tohaa turn 2 saw the sakiel gun down Drakios and a Surda pull out a hmg from a panoploy, the novelty of burst seven got the better of me and I stupidly shot at the myrms at 2s and 4s = kerail team dead. The Sukeul got the job done gunning down a Myrm of unkown armament. The Gao rael came on behind the Thoraktai, d charged a hill and went to shoot the thoraktai at which point my opponent remembered the 360 visor on thrasymedes, courtesy lists people, we cancelled the order in light of the gotcha. The Sakiel used the lt order to get up to hvt range and we called the game due to time.

With 40 points of Kerails eclipsed by the death of  Achilles alone I don't think an extra round would have made much difference bar perhaps getting a lt kill in there.

Final result 8-0

Thoughts: The table savagely punished my opponents list, its game plan was clearly getting up close and murder stuff but the excessive sight lines and my sniper surplus stopped him getting close enough to really threaten anything, the three makauls also mean that whilst a lone myrmidon is normally a cc threat once amongst the back lines it really needs to be ajax/achilles to be truly scary. I have since learnt that when a unit is killed all its stats become open, including being a lieutenant so I should have been more aggressive having learnt that neither achilles or machaon were the lt.

Round 2: Revenge of the Tiklaban

vTW09XI.jpg

The two lists for this, again I'm slightly vague on his and groups. At mission pairing a rule was confirmed/changed that g:synch/Servant cannot open panoplies as they are not troopers. This is quite a rule change especially as if they arent troopers they dont generate aros... at any rate after a mild riot we conceded to play that they cant open them.

And the table, this shot is from the customeeple doubles tournament the day before but the setup is the same.

XT7fXtu.jpg

I really dont like the Gorgos, i'd used it twice before this and in one of those it got oneshot by a lrl crit. This game went similarly south. Deployment saw my opponent leave nothing but the bots in the open with the regulars occuping the cathedral roof, again no courtesy list I was told the bots were de pulso non baggage, turns out they were mulebots not fuggazi but ho hum. I had a gao rael and kerail team to cover the approach as again no msv2. Switch was holoprojecting as an orc troop.

SAA turn 1: Tikbalang shoots at the kerail, who smoked the Gao-Rael survived the normal rolls with one wound and gutsd to cover. Gao rael wins a f2f vs tag, palbot heals it and he then gets the the Gaorael down to 1 wound Gr goes prone. Orc moves up the board, I didnt notice that he must have spent an irregular order to do this, whoops.

Tohaa turn 1. I ask the cc of the orc which my opponent doesnt know, another hint missed >.< Gorgos moves up to shoot the orc troop, who reveals to be switch CRIT from the emitter on an 11. After the game I checked the rng of emitter and realised he probably needed an 8 but lesson learned to check this sort of thing, it was too epic a moment to disect. Switch dies to the chaksa and I die a little inside. Gao Rael pops up to kill the rems. Sukeul team moves up a flank.

SAA turn 2. Bagh mari hmg kills Beyonce, Chaska hmg, and Kaurri. Naga rolls a panopoly runs out to monomine near the Sukeul team and dies to Gr. Tikklabang moves to central panopoly and flames the Iago who fails his dodge, rolls the panopoly and enters supression fire.

Tohaa turn 2. "Ten minutes left" Wow we rush on to get this played out. Sukeul gets crit by the baghmari before killing two.  Surda jumps into cc with the tag and beats the supression fire but tag saves. 1 order left I cant kill the tag but am blocking the opponent scoring it. Like a complete nob I cc it and die... We call time.

As we start packing up and scoring I learn immobilised and isolated isnt a null state, so Ive actually killed more points than my opponent. If I hadn't declared that final cc it would have been a draw. My only consolation to this bit of dickheadery is that I might have gotten tougher matchups if I had taken the extra op from this. To make matters worse I realised later I could jump the gorgos out of its armour to remove the isolated state. We finish the scores and packing away to hear "15 minutes left" What the F*%K I felt a bit bad for my opponent as I suspect he could have hammered home a better win given time but we both misheard the original announcement in spanish and english.

Score 3:6

Looks like gao-rael manages to performe ARO duties very well :)... never put kerail as ARO-Smoker. A thing ill remember for future. Nice and interesting reports!

Round Three: Tunguska Frontline

Out of over fifty tables I somehow ended up back on the table from round 1. Winning initiative I chose to deploy in the same side again. My opponent was running a super hacker heavy list evidently aimed at the high number of hi and tags running about. We both took intelcom. I felt a bit bad as the table was once again in my favour see list below again its a little hazy as my opponent had a number of proxies.

My opponents combi spectre failed its infiltration roll and his side simply didnt have the space to conceal those rem bases.

Nomads turn 1. Sniper spectre shoots the Gr whilst a Kerail again throws smoke onto it, the spectre loses the roll and dies. Grenzer sniper idles expecting a Gr aro which doesn't come and so wastes the second part of the order. The interventor throws marksmanship onto the spitfire rem who dies to the gao-rael. My opponent spent a lt order to put marksmanship onto the feurbach rem who kills the nikoul then retreats from the gao-rael.

Tohaa turn 1. Gao rael kills the salyut, Sukeul kills the Tsyklon and Gao tarsos walks on to kill the interventor lt.

Nomads turn 2. Now in lol the Clockmaker heals the Feurbach rem and the Spectre shoots at a thing, I forget what.

Tohaa turn 2. Sukeul kills the feurbach again and gao tarsos kills everything bar a clockmaker and zond, we call it there.

I think the actual vp for this got recorded wrong as its shows 173 remaining but for the life of me I dont recall much dying. I suspect it should be 272. My opponent had 21 points left.

9-0

Thoughts. Again the table and hacking immunity buggered my opponent here but that list was a little sub-optimal in my opinion. My opponent ended mid table though so it cant have been all bad. If the smoke lands on the Gao-Rael its really bloody hard to shift, very few troops capably of forcing it to engage can beat his two 12s reliably enough to punch through the mate and two wounds.

Next up a Tohaa mirror match.

Interesting game vs Nomads.... Hmm...Nomads had an interesting list. Grenzer and Spektr multi should ARO only... I thought he could easily make marksmanshiplvl2 on spitfire tsyklon, make white noise with other haker and purify all your ARO and more...bs 15 spitfire shock...brrr....(starting with kerail), then suppresive and overwatch with two drones. Was it the problem of terrain he didnt try to do it?

And can't wait to see more reports! ;)

Thank you so much for the awesome reports!

But thank you NOT for bringing up memories of that table #13 again! :( I also had to play there TWICE! Guess which two games I lost... (One vs Tohaa, one vs Aleph) By the way I had game 2 and 5 there. So only for #4 both of us left it unattended. ;)

Glad you like them. The table thing is bizzare I'm sure the tourney manager even flags that it has matched onto a repeat table >.<

Okay so before it slips my mind completely

Round 4: Mirror Mirror etc.

My fourth game was against a fellow Tohaa player who was ranked in the top 10 globally so I knew this wasnt going to be an easy match. He was also a proper gent who having won his last match by bringing down a sphinx with a crit, realised that the sphinx was burnt and so it wasnt a crit afterall, found his opponent who rolled and passed an armour save. The match was swapped to a loss. Sporting.

This mission was decapitation and his list was as follows bar grouping.

I ended up going second. We both deployed fairly conservatively with the nikouls, gao raels and beyonce having a staring match across the rooftops.

We played left to right on this table (image pinched from Phlyk.) I had the right hand side.

DSC_0231.JPG

Evil tohaa Turn 1: my opponent spat out a white noise zone to prevent eating multiple aros when the sniper battle commenced. Throwing one dice more than your opponent hunting the same numbers is rarely a situation you want to be in. Our nikouls shot it out eventually mine crit his, viral killed it outright.

The sukuel link moved up and forward observed the hvt.

Heroic true Tohaa turn1: In a complete display of incompetence I had one of my dogs massively out of zoc of its handler. Durp.

The sniper battle recommenced, His gao rael delivered a crit to mine and I bottled continuing the fight. Gao tarsos came on straight into zoc of the Kerail with a symbiobomb who thankfully fluffed his wip check to nuke me, our winged friend finished off his gao rael taking a wound in the process. I moved my sakiel link up along the left hand flank without a real purpose and my second kerail dies to his.

Clearly they are Sygmaa turn 2: His Kerail kill off the gao tarsos, and put a wound on the sakiel before falling to aro fire. The righthand of my dz area is now a clusterfuck of Sukeul triads and missed bullets. The Makaul in my gt triad goes down.

Good guys turn 2: With smoke I ran a surda up to Pulzar and smg the entire Sukeul link and the Iago, no casualities bar the kerail team... Arse. I moved my sakiel link up along the left hand flank without a real purpose. My sukeul continues to loses f2f rolls against his. Things dont appear to be going well for me at this point.

OpFor turn 3: He doctors his kerail who kills my lieutenant. Balls. I rarely play doctors, in part I think this is from their shittyness in N2 and so often forget that they exist, welp lesson learned. The sukeul team moves to finish off my Gao rael who crits it sending them back into cover.

Me turn 3: LEERROOYYYYYYY JENNN.... ahem. At any rate clearly playing conservatively was not going my way my opponent was up 2 classifieds at 2 each, had a lt kill and was probably ahead in points. Discretion be damned. The Kaeltar went to show his reanimated triad chum how its done and blasted the Kosuil, Makaul and Iago from the table. Enboldened by this he attacked the Sukeul who promptly crit him back. The Makaul moved up and downed the Sukeul. Something dropped his Kerail again and I was out of orders. Swapping one of my cards for a secure hvt we called the game.

After triple checking the scores It emerged that I had actually killed more points.

7-6 Victory.

Thoughts: This was by far the toughest match and it was testament to my opponents skill how close it was considering I had complete rooftop domination. In hindsight I made a few silly mistakes that I was lucky to get away with. Symbiobombs are ace, I just cant give up the mate version though, a little rebalance of the profiles might swing this maybe removing the shotgun version of the mate carrier.

Round 5: Ariadna Annihilation

maxresdefault.jpg

Going into round 5 my nerves were jangling, I figured that a win here would put me top 20. My opponent and I had played alongside one another at the customeeple doubles tourney so we both had an idea of what to expect from one another, that said if you are facing down vanilla Ariadna in a killy mission its fairly certain you are going to get Van Zant and Uxia shoved at you. So no suprises the list was something like this.

We played on the below table with my opponent on the side nearest the camera.  A quick note on this mission, the rules had been adjusted to give more weight to killing and less to classifieds I forget the exact change but it meant it was a touch harder to score big than usual.

I won the initiative roll and faced a quandary. The mission had no incentive to go second and my opponent was likely to field enough orders not to care too much about being command tokened, further I knew he was happy to risk deep infiltration rolls and could potentially bypass the strength of my snipers. Not much reason to go second.

But.

I feel the strength of camo spam is not in the f2f modifiers so much as making it really hard to prioritise targets. I really didn't want to have to mooch up the board overextending and potentially blowing orders on mines and ambush markers.

In the end I put faith in my symbioarmour and took deployment. Fingers crossed.

He rolled to infiltrate and failed, a hardcase appearing on his side of the board. Otherwise it was reasonably conservative with a two regulars almost completely inaccessible on balconies. A couple of markers out to aro plus a warcor bravely surveying the board.

I put the gao rael and nikoul in view of his exposed units and a kerail to smoke up. Everything else bunkered up under the watchful eye of the Kauri and the second Kerail covered the board edge from Van Zant bullshittery.

His reserve model passed its infiltration roll and the marker started all up in the grill of my Sukeul.

Ariadna turn 1: A camo marker casually walked past my Nikoul and Diplomat who fluffed their discover rolls, whilst the GT held and Kerail smoked them up (electing not to bother making it a normal roll due to weight of fire) the marker moved up and revealed as a Spetznaz hmg who fired at the Kauri who somehow survived and dropped for cover.

This freed up The infiltrated marker, predictably the marker revealed to be Uxia who stepped out of cover and into btb to get clear shots at the Sukeul who merrily responded with a breaker pistol shot to the face. Unfortunately only one breaker shot got through effectively blinding the Sukeul for the remainder of my turn, unable to avert his eyes from the body at his feet (this could do with a clearer faq on removal of engaged imo).

The Spetznaz moved deeper into my dz and shot at the Sakiel who took a crit and dropped out of los. The russian moved up to take out my Kamael, a quick enquiry as to his weapon and my opponent asked if he could recamo first, I consented and he flipped an extra order before shooting my sniper who clearly sensing the karmic narrative crit him off the table. I'm not fluent in spanish but the resulting outburst was not lost in translation.

The antipodes ran up to try their luck on a flank, engaging my unsmoked kerail team they dropped prone to become s0 and 25mm (note this does not make you 25mm as we played it)  so they could swarm the surda but one died to an aro on the way in. The surda attacked one antipode and he elected to attack with the other, both surda and pode died. The remaining antipode put a wound on the kerail before falling victim to the electric pulse.

The dog face takes to a rooftop ready for turn 2.

Tohaa turn 1: having weathered the storm far better than I expected I got to work, the antipode was removed and the Sukeul endulged in the coup de gras that had be served up to him and killed the cateran before getting blinded by the troublesome warcors. My Sakiel triad killed the hardcase and a grunt from range. On the right hand side my Kerail kills the dogface after some argument about his attempt to spec shot smoke in aro. I consolidated the bulk of my forces forwards confident that he had expended most of his tricks.

I forgot van zant.

Ariadna turn 2:

The 112 doctors the Cateran up, who shoots at the surdaless kerail but is beaten by smoke. into which walks van zant. Who offs the kerail and (I think a makaul but my memory is hazey here) before dying to a Kaeltar shotgun.

The dogface takes to a rooftop and a mine walks up the board, before some expletives and a bit of jiggery have the chassuer move instead and fail to take out the kerail.

Tohaa turn 2: The Sukeul mops up the entire left flank bar the regulars. With almost nothing left on the board and no retreat rules in place my opponent calls the game midway and declares a total loss.

10-0 Victory

Thoughts. The initiative was a gamble that paid off, I think the sensible play for my opponent would have been to gamble uxia but leave his big toys in marker state until at least turn 2 to stop me taking them out. The game emphasised the strength of Tohaa resilience I had a huge amount of wounds inflicted (that perhaps didnt make it to this rep) but lost almost no models. The Kerail proved their worth once again both as roadblocks and hunting party.

Event Conculsion.

If you get the chance definitely try to make it to the Interplanetario. In general the language barrier was a complete non issue and it was a great chance to meet players from all over the globe. The customeeple warm up was also a great ice breaker for this. The missions were an odd choice but their speed helped alleviate some of the Spanish timekeeping issues. I do think an extra game squashed in somewhere might have been good to thin the top of the table out further.

Which brings me onto tables. The stereotype is that spanish tables are very open, which has some truth to it but I suspect this is in part due to the difficulty of assembling 50 of the buggers. So build your list with that in mind. I dont think that global terrain types have a place in competitive events whilst being randomly assigned to tables, I don't think it rewards list building as much as sheer luck. If events want to use terrain rules I think that it should be assigned on a mission by mission basis across the entire room, further it should be enough to simply have a terrain skill to ignore it( i know its not fluffy). Otherwise it can impact on your ability not just to fight your opponent but on your scoring relative to games not being played on difficult terrain.

Global low viz simply shouldnt be a thing. Mimetism, camo etc are already super powerful and I really dont think they need boosting just because you happened to get lucky/unlucky with your table placement. I feel for the poor sod who got subjected to spec fire whilst being forced to dodge on -6ph.

Overall the event was a great laugh and I would like to go again, just a shame that only first gets their place secured for next year.

Bonus dodgy army picture.

Given we were the 4th most played faction, can we still claim the underdog title?

Given that we are (globally) the 8th most-played of the 8 factions, yes.

This has lead to me being almost tabled twice.
