Starting Nomads

9 posts in this topic

I have resisted it before but the coming of Beyond Icestorm has once again brought the temptation to buy Nomads upon me.

Let's say, I'll get the contents of both Icestorm and of Beyond Icestorm and in addition to that I'll get max 150€ to spend. The goal is to get as versatile vanilla Nomads collection as possible within these limits. I'll be playing ITS and am willing to proxy.

For example Morlocks, Support pack and Zonds remotes would spend appr. 80€ and give this list and still leave 70€ to spend.

I'm proxying
-Spektr as Zero KHD
-Alguacile as Alguacile hacker

Would this list make any sense?

Welcome to the Bromads!

For flexibility you should get more A/D Troops. Hellcats and Tomcats are your choice.
Also some Hacking option. Take a look at the Interventor!

And while you're at hacking, look for more remotes. The basic 2-Zond pack is good. There is also the bigger Sputnik.

I completely skipped the Daktari and Clockmaker and went straight for the Tomcat specialists. But each his own.

You made a good choise! nomads are a verry flexible faction and fun to play. I feel you got the right idea with this list, never played kriza myself but Im expecting him to be great.

I would get morlocs and the interventor box, then perhaps i can sway you into tsyklon box over the support pack/droid box.

we dont use algacil hackers in vanilla, its interventor all the way! Also  makes it harder to spot whos your lt

I dont use reaction zonds in nomads, if I would Id get a sineater. I tend to go for tsyklons/lunokhods that have pitchers, good weapons and repeaters.. so much fun with those.. But this is more of a personal opinion and nothing you have to accept as law :D.

Some proxy examples(until get them all ofc)

Panda models from interventor box has a lot of uses, you can  proxy a moran with an algacil, or a zond bot or crazy koalas for a luokhod, alugalcils and interventors look generic enough to proxy a lot of models until you want to expand more actually..

About your list. Drop one morlock and the alugacil hacker and perhaps one of the zond bots if needed for an interventor and It should be good to go.

Also, the Grenzer can be a nasty nasty sniper in active turn. Just don't use Sniper version. Take the Forward Observer with Sensor and triangulate the heck out of your enemies.

Looks like a solid list.

I'd suggest the Zero Blister, a Lunokhod, the Interventor box and a Warband box to round things out.

Lunokhod is a great REM and it gives you 2 Koalas that'll open up your proxy options (SK + 2 x Koalas = proxy Moran; Kriza + 2 x Koalas = proxy Taskmaster). It's not a must take though.

Zero blister will allow you to run 3 SK. Zeros are simply great. Killer Hacker + Minelayer/FO/BSG/EMauler is a staple of many Nomads.

Interventors. There's a reason they appeared in the vast majority of Interplanetary lists. They're an absolute highlight of Vanilla.

Warband. Jaguars are our best cheerleaders and Morlocks are our most efficient source of Smoke. Either are a must take in most Nomad lists.

Bakunin starter is a great alternative way to expand: Moira + Grrl can easily proxy any of the profiles, Sin Eaters are solid and Moderators + Morlock adds low end options to your lists building.

Awesome! Thanks for all the feedback!

Having given it a thought I'm starting to feel like actually skipping the Icestorm-nomads. I feel like getting more bang for the buck just by picking those minis I really need to start. Half of the Icestorm nomads would just sit on the bench in the actual game. And besides I can probably spot it in some 2nd hand market later if needed since many players start with it.

I think I'm gonna go with these for the start.
Beyond Icestorm; Interventors; Morlocks; Supports pack; Zeros (2pack); Lunokhod; Zonds.
Not too much variety for the list building but It'll give me a good starting point without having committed too much.

I really considered all your suggestions, but Bakunin starter, Tomcats and Jaguars will have to stay on queue for now :)

Proxying Lunokhod as Tsyklon...

No engineer, but it's a bit of an aggressive list anyway so no time to repair things... Kriza Borac is quite of a center piece so I included a daktari to save his ass. I might switch Lt between Kriza and Interventor.

Although this goes a bit above your budget if bought from CB directly, but from other sources this would probably come just under 150€

Having models that spend the game sitting around doing very little is par for the course. It's how the game is designed. All the models in Icestorm are useful but not necessary.

I do understand the concept of cheerleaders, but perhaps my words were poorly chosen. By sitting on a bench I meant being out of the game alltogether. As in not even being included in the army list. Lke "sitting on a bench, not chosen to the team and watching the other guys play".
