It's kinda stale here, so let's discuss a random stupid HB list

58 posts in this topic

So the other day I've made a list that isn't really serious (as it was built around particular idea that isn't "winning a match"), but perhaps it can be tweaked into better playability. Since this forum section is pretty silent, I decided "why not post it".

So, there's the list proper:

Things to mention:

- Yes, this is dual Ragik list. The entire point of this list was to justify buying Ragik spitfire model (which I think is amazing) even though I promised myself to be careful with IRL funds I spend on Infinity, and I already have Ragik from starter. Yes, I know it sounds dumb. That is also intended, to set the mood :P

- This will likely be used in some of our noob in-house matches against people who, similarly to myself, have no idea what they are doing. But hey let's discuss this nevertheless.

- Lieutenant is rather obvious in that it's one of the two models likely packed into the same square inch. So I feel like using that Lt order freely, especially since Group 1 orders will be chomped in a blink as it is. While we are at it, can I activate a link with it, provided an Lt (which will be activated as link leader) is a part of it? I thought I kinda can.

- Farzan FO can be replaced with minelayer to maybe have a chance to mask that second Ragik, although considering minelayer popularity, that's unlikely to fool anyone. So, that loadout is open, depending on mission (I don't have many button pushers). CoC is pretty much a necessity due to Lt issues coupled with couple of order-hungry pieces.

- Not sure if lack of Doc in the link is a good idea, but that can be amended. He was replaced with second sniper in the hope that it will add up to other pieces holding the line while the good part of the list chills in reserve.

- Lasiq is honestly there just because. Perhaps adding orders to the second group instead is a better idea, but I don't have remote models or something like that at the moment. So far the plan was to put him somewhere relevant and enter coordinated suppression with Ragik(s) in case those survive. I mean, there are many good ways to spend 25/0, although I feel that putting this one cool-looking thing on the table isn't the worst idea. I could also squeeze something like Doc with nasmat there instead, but I'm afraid I won't have enough orders to use independent doc.

- I could also replace that Lasiq with EVO somehow (ignoring the aforementioned "no models" issue for a moment), but even with two AD guys I'm not sure if it's worth it.

- Ayyar isn't there for Holo1 shenanigans per se (because I don't have vast collection of models), and they are pretty limited in what they can fake anyway, even if you go second. But probably he will still be useful to do some cleanup and/or button pushing late game.

- Data Tracker missions will be a bane of this list. If I will have to field some, I'll probably have to seriously reshuffle it.

That's basically it. I realize there's not much to talk about since a lot of stuff is limited by arbitrary tings like "I just like this model" or "I don't own enough / some specific models", but oh well. What do you think?

Unless you want to bring down both Ragiks in the same turn, I would move one of them into group two and one Mutt into group 1. The Mutt with orders can be super annoying if you need it to be, and when someone dies you can move Ragik in group two into group 1 before it drops. Looks fun! My dream is to run 4 Ragiks and an EVO :P

About the lt order and links, you can't use the lt order without breaking the link - from the wiki, emphasis mine:

FIRETEAM ACTIVATION IN ACTIVE TURN

The main flaw in the list, to my mind, is the lack of a Barid hacker that can do Controlled Jump to make sure the Ragiks land where they want to. I'd also be tempted to make one of the Ragiks a hacker, so he could claim objectives.

However, unless it was a very specialists-heavy mission, I would go balls to the walls midfield control insanity, and do this:

So, the idea here is to bleed the enemy order pool. You've got double minelayer and a Fiday with mines (so at least 6 cammo/impersonation tokens on the board, and you can do a coordinated order for triple mine drop), and double snipers + missile launcher in a dedicated defensive link team, the ever-obnoxious-ARO-Warcor, and three obnoxious muttawi'ah plus two daylami that hopefully end up in a, for your opponent, frustrating location. At the same time, you have a Barid who can do Controlled Jump, and then the Ragiks and the Fidays can go to town alpha striking the enemy.

Though I would consider swapping one of the Ghulam snipers for a Ghulam doctor, to be honest.

Duh. I've never realized you don't really need EVO for that, and tbh I was thinking of squeezing Barid in. Probably better focus on the plan of, well, alpha-striking and being obnoxious is worth considering.

I've thrown something together, although I feel like this one relies much more on shenanigans and ability to take out specialists and/or cheerleaders. Also significantly less mutts/daylami, although depending on mission one can downgrade Ragik hacker and one of Fidays to Rifle or BSG profile each, then add a mutt+warcor or daylami, although the latter would require you to give Lt role to Ghulam (and remove Lt mixup).

When you want to play Ariadna, but don't feel like doubling your minis collection.

This list is pretty short on specialists though, although it seems this thread is a lot about lists for less button-oriented missions.

No. In my meta, such things are never known in advance, so if they happen and you aren't prepared, you're at a disadvantage.

However, the main reason behind including the Govad Core was providing the list with a Core Fireteam of some sort (and a recently painted Govad HMG model supplementing the already 6-model strong Govad force I own :P). The Ghilim were a bit on the cheap side, and I sincerely didn't thought about Muyibs (well, they were the core I used last time when I played Bahram).

Also, the list was intended to fit into a small transport box (15x 25mm bases tops for this one). Therefore, 10 Orders, 13 "models" (including 3rd Asawira as Yasbir's holo-cover, and 2 Holoechos for Ayyar).

I lack 4th Asawira or 2nd Ayyar model to fill the points up if I were to take a cheaper Core, though I could proxy with a 2ed Azra'il or a Janissary... I'll be willing to alter the list though, if you have suggestions that fit into the abovementioned parameters :)

Someone on this forum once posted an extreme order bleed list that they won a tournament with. I can't find the original, so be warned that this is my tweaked version (I switched out Avicenna, I think, among other things), but it was something like this:

In missions where specialists are important, one could easily swap two Daylamis and the Warcor for a Barid assault hacker.

Okay, I found the old list! It was made by Zavros, who won two(!) tournaments with it:

"Here is a bahram list I have won 2 tournaments with. It is very streamlined and knows exactly what it wants to do (force opponents to spend lots of time on non-obective actions, reduce their order pool significantly and punish weak deployments.) It's obviously weak to some things (Long range msv 2 on open terrain. TO Tag/HI. All of my fidays dying), but I definitely have a plan on how I'm spending my orders and what I'm accomplishing."

How do you go about introducing special conditions, such as visibility? Do you decide randomly (by rolling on some table, perhaps)?

Well, Muybs is what I usually think about when I need something more expensive. Hence questions about a choice that looks like something more specialized, like Govads. But I see. To be honest, I'd field Govads once in a while even if just for the looks, but I don't have any yet. I'm definitely interested in new Muybs release though.

@Natsymir, it's interesting that those list work well in competitive environment (assuming right missions ofc). What I find funny is that this is roughly how I imagined HB being played when I read about Infinity and factions for the first time, but never seen such compositions before, especially in competitive environment.

It's kind of surprising to me, to be honest. I always want to bring something 'hard' with high burst, like an Asawira or a Muyib link team. But let's think about it:

I have begun to realize that the Fiday, somewhat counter-intuitively, is often not best used as a suicide unit, but rather as something that you force the enemy to burn orders trying to deal with. That's why the minelayer is by far the best fiday profile, and why I so seldom field Hussein al-Djabel (he simply doesn't offer anything that regular Fiday can't do). And the advantage of the triple Farzan minelayers should be obvious - it's great to be able to place two cammo markers per model up to the mid-line of the gaming table, one of which is a mine, and then to use coordinated orders to lay additional mines...insanity.

The Warcor was in basically every list last Interplanetario, and for good reason. He's perhaps under-priced for what he brings to the table, as an insanely useful ARO figure. The Daylami, too, are excellent ARO threats, that your enemy just can't ignore - doubly so if they succeed with their inferior infiltration roll.

So, in lists of this type, the enemy has to:
- Deal with your Dogged Muttawi'ahs, all with smoke grenades.
- Deal with tons of mines.
- Deal with triple Fidays, some perhaps with additional mines, all with smoke grandes.
- Deal with triple cammoed Farzans.
- Deal with a Warcor and several Daylami, perhaps camouflaged and infiltrated, all with dangerous ARO weapons.
- Deal with a long-range link team in cover in your deployment zone, with an excellent doctor that can easily heal them back up again.
- And a killer hacker, to boot.

Unless they come prepared with a Minesweeper or lots of MSV2 or something (which I honestly don't see that often in my meta), I can easily see the enemy hemorrhaging orders just trying to get to the objectives.

That is one way to use fidays, but I use them to eliminate long range threats. TR Bots, MSV 2 units, dismantling links, or cheerleaders. I do use mines a lot. Its great to set a mine, then engage a link team and let the mine explode on the link when they respond.

We're using 20x20 mission system. Some of these do have limited visibility. Also, it is pretty common to have some troops with CH of various levels on table. Today my opponent had something about 2 Nagas and a Acontaciemento Regular sniper in his foxhole 9which grants him Mimetism).

I have a full set of Govads, and a full set of (2ed) Muyibs, basically all the loadouts. I can choose however I wish (let's say my to-do list regaridng buying / painting is rather short, and for some of my sectorials, even shorter than others).

If I see a good opportunity, I'll do that, too, of course. But many of my opponents have such a solid deployment that eliminating such threats are very risky, and I prefer not to take the 1/4 chance of failing the WIP roll to deploy the Fiday in the enemy deployment zone, for the consequences of failing means your 30 pts Fiday is basically rendered useless for the whole game. Plus, I often go second, as many missions have an obvious advantage to having the last player round. Going second severely cripples a Fiday's assassination potential.

However, there are exceptions. I could risk the roll to go after let's say a Sophotect or a Reverend Hacker, as they're so immensely important to the enemy, and possibly their lieutenant too.

This one might even work. With this many Daylami you can cover the whole table in AROs. Tarik is there for fun and the Djan for some heavy lifting, if need be. It will also be very interessting to see, how people react to this many Panzerfausts.

Agreed, I normally deploy at their edge and walk in with smoke...but a TR bot, or a cluster of cheerleaders is a hard prospect to forgo. I see a TR Bot, a Yan Hao ML, a Saladin, etc. You bet I am taking that chance.

I could, but to be honest, I dont like those profiles. Yes, can be an even bigger pain in the butt, when they land, but all those who dont, have to be placed in poor positions. And I really cant stand the latter. Instead I prefer to deploy them in LOS to important models or if I deploy first, I put them in places to watch objectives or important lanes.

So they have to be where I want them and that is only guaranteed, without an infiltration roll.

Well, I was able to playtest it yesterday.

It went horribly bad: after opponent's turn #1, I had the Asawira Spitfire, Ayyar and Govad Hacker down, and Govad ML & the Ghulam PF dead. Save for bringing the the Asawira back up, I wasn't able to do much - most of my loses were caused by Drakios and one of his Devabots (in @Stiopa's Acontaciemento list). I killed him out, but apart from that couldn't do a thing.

No dice luck at all, and no buildt-in resilience, I'd say.

Yup, I was going second.

Now if only Daylami could stick the landing as well as superior Grunts, we'd be in business.

I used the following. Lost the game, but I think it is mostly because of no HMG, and the Fiday did not have a good target. If I'm wrong though, I'd love to be told why! I think the Fiday, Ayyar, and Leila just were a bad match up against 2W/STR enemies.
