Question about Qapu link

11 posts in this topic

Good morning everyone! I recently started playing with Qapu and the truth is that I only tried the djanbazan link, which incidentally I really like and I consider it a link hunter, despite its movement 10-5. I've been thinking about some alternative troop to make a hunter and I've seen the Sekban, the haris attracts me to prove it, it looks like it's powerful. But I'd like to know what alternatives I might have. I leave you a list that I have left that I want to try, is a bit standard, with no specific purpose for any mission

Check out the Kaplans (my Odalisques will hate me for this).  They are extremely versatile and Mimietism gives them additional protection.

Them with an Odalisques Haris (2 SMG/Contender  + the Rifle/LSG Haris one; or one Spitfire, one SMG/Contender and the Haris); are a good order efficient combo with enough points left for extra support.

As for Sekban Haris, I like them particulary as long-ranged support / defensive team, armed with a HRL.

I will try, but kaplan are offensive? can You put an example?

About Odalisques, I will try one Spitfire, one SMG/Contender and the Haris, i think is more powerfull

About the Sekban haris, spitfire+HRL+haris?

Rather Haris + HRL + anything (most often Doc, sometimes Lt). HRL and Spitfire are 1,5 SWC each, and if the team is primarily used for ARO / area control / long range support, the HRL does the job (especially over 24") pretty well. If you find you have to counter something below HRLs optimum range, linked AP rifle on the Haris trooper is good up to 16", and the HRL operator still has an Assault Pistol for an odd close-up job (and if you have the Doc in the team, there's a BSG at hand, too).

Having a Spitfire too in such a situation puts a heavy burden on your SWC allowance while bringing little advantage, IMO.

But then again, I'm known to prefer a HRL (and if it is not available, a ML) over a Spitfire in a Fireteam whenever available. I perceive it as having better odds at long range with a launcher, and under its effective range, rifles / combis still do the job good enough.

It really depends on what you consider offensive; and how many points and SWC you're willing to put on a Link Team.  The advantages of the Kaplans are that you have Specialists for pushing buttons and either blitzens or ADH Launchers to isolate/immobilize expensive things.

Also, with Mimetism, Kaplans can be pretty hard to hit (not being hit is even better than getting hit and withstanding the attack). Of course, they can be a little short on firepower in the assault role - Comibs and a Spitfire are the best you can get there (though I like the MSR in a fireteam there, it gives you pretty effective, long-ranged firepower).

This is the ultimate Qapu Khalki link to my mind:

It's called the Janissary Pain Train, and is absolutely brutal. The trick is to never expose the Hafzas, and destroy things with the HMG in your active turn, while leaving the Missile Launcher for AROs in your reactive turn. Once a Janissary goes down, you can either heal them one wound on a 17 or less, or go for broke and heal them back up to two wounds on a 14 or less, with the Akbar doctor. If you want more specialists, you can give the Hafzas Forward Observer, or you can make the link even more resilient by adding a Janissary with Tinbots. Since most Link Teams have kind of a glass jaw, I love this link as they're so extremely resilient. They're a fearsome board presence, and Qapu Khalki have no problems backing them up with 150 points of cheap but useful figures and plenty of extra orders.

Forgive me saying that, but this was a pain train on the cheap. "Narrow gauge pain train" if you please.

is the full-sized pain train of Janissaries. While ~30pts (40pts if you want more AP Rifles there) more expensive than the variant with Hafzas, it has the resilience of being composed entirely of Janissaries: ARM 4, W2 everywhere. Which makest them withstand attrition way better.

Nb. I consider the Tinbot a necessity with a HI Fireteam.

I recently bought the Janissaries box set to create this (but with AP Rifles).  Players in my group have been favoring Limited Insertion and a madman even wanted to make a 400 pts Limited Insertion Match.  These make Lim-Ins quite easy to pull.

I believe I have been talking about my "can't think today" list here somewhere. But if not:

  • take a Janissary Pain Train (one heavy weapon only, though, otherwise you'll be short on SWC),
  • add a Sekban Haris with a HRL,
  • add al'Hawwa Hacker,
  • top with a Shihab TR HMG REM.

The Janissaries are your main offensive element, the al'Hawwa is a troubleshooter, the Sekban provide long range fire-support & rear area defense, and the Shihab is also primarily defensive (though keep in mind that a HMG on a MOV 6-4 platform can be a pretty effective offensive piece, too).
