I like Dire Foes a lot, I think they're cool and fluffy, and it'd be great to see more of them! But do you agree? Make your voice heard! This thread is for discussing Dire Foes characters, which ones you like, which ones you don't, what you'd like to see, what not etc. Be positive but if you don't like Dire Foes you can say that too!

...where's the option of "I'd like one one Dire Fore character for every troop type capable of making a Spec Op"?

That'd be option two, really

(line troops is perhaps too interchangeable).

Option one is that, and more!

Sphinx isn't Line Trooper, though, Yan Huo, on the other hand, are. :)

I honestly never thought Yan Huo were Line Troopers, that's insane...

...Dire Gaki. Protheion, but the explosion template scales with wounds XD

Dire Foes typically don't invent new rules, but if there ever is an Explosion L2 (remember, it's a levelled skill with only one level), then a Dire Foe might have one.

Basically, Invincible Army current hasn't got any known, certain, troopers capable of Abduction except Tigers. Everything is Line Infantry.

On a more serious note: what @Errhile wrote! I don't want to see multiple Dire Foes of the same type and I don't want to see all Line Infantry have Dire Foes (mostly because it'd be silly in Yu Jing and some factions barely have any Line Infantry). I do, however, like to see a face put on the best of each Spec Op archetype.

If there were more dire foes characters for the same troop type there should be a max ava of 1 for them

I shudder to think of what I could get away with if I could take lupe and another special alguacil in the same fireteam

Other than that, there should at least be one dire foes mini per line troop type, maybe even for some of the MI troops, like a character kamau or wildcat

I'd love an Acontecimento Regular with shotgun and tac bow.

...I'll put the request for a Fuerbach profile on hold for now, just from the perspective of managing my expectations.

How about reworking existing ones first (hello Bipandra, and mayby Koni) ?

@ad rem:
New ones could be fun.

Semi-related question: Is there any kind of schedule for the release of Dire Foes packs and when was the last pack released? I really, really want more of them.

They all came out at the same time, apart from the most recent one that was to complement Red Veil.

I want one Dire Foe for each troop capable of being a SpecOps (effectively, one Dire Foe per Sectorial).  But I think more than that would be dangerously unbalancing.  Imagine a link team with Yuriko Oda and Xi Zhuang in it:

logo_201.png Yu Jing
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

orden_regular.png5
logo_55.pngXI ZHUANG Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower, MadTraps / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 20) [ Forward Observer ]
logo_46.pngYURIKO ODA Combi Rifle, Panzerfaust, D-Charges, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, CCW. (0 | 24) [ Engineer ]
logo_1.pngZHANSHI HMG / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 19)
logo_1.pngZHANSHI Combi Rifle + Light Grenade Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 15)
logo_1.pngZHANSHI Hacker (Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 19)

2.5 SWC | 97 Points

All the firepower to get you to an objective and 3 different specialists to do something when you get there.

But that still leaves at least one more Dire Foe per faction:

  • PanO has Fusiliers (Bipandra) and Order Sergeants (Konstantinos), but needs Acon Regulars (and Sval Regulars if that becomes a thing)
  • Yu Jing has Keisotsu (Yuriko Oda) and Celestial Guard (Xi Zhuang), but needs Zanshi.
  • Ariadna has a Volunteer (Isobel MacGregor), but needs a Metro, Kazak, and Grunt.
  • Haqqislam has a Muyib (Yasbir), but needs Ghulam and Hafza.
  • Nomads have an Aguacile (Lupe Balboa), but need Moderators and probably Securitate.
  • Combined has a Morat (Treitak Anyat) and a Shas (Corvax Hasht), and will need any other LI CB adds.  Probably a Nexus.
  • Aleph has Thorakites (Trasimedes), and will need something for the Vedic sectorial, probably a Deva.
  • Tohaa has a Kamael (Aelis Keesan), and will probably need another one for the Triumvirate/Illuminati.

Though I admit an original purpose of the Dire Foes was to give an alternate SpecOps model, alternate gender and/or unit.  For example, the original YJ SpecOps model was a tooled-up Zanshi, and Yuriko was the Keisotsu alternative sculpt.  Instead, I bought 3 different YJ Guifeng models and GS'd hakama/hammerpants onto one.

Well, within a couple months of each other (there was one or two Dire Foes boxes released per month for several consecutive months IIRC) back around when Campaign Paradiso first shipped.  Then nothing until this most recent one to complement Red Veil.  (Oddly, there wasn't a new Dire Foes to complement Icestorm, though we already had Fusilier and Alguacile Dire Foes.)

So we probably won't see another Dire Foes box until the next two-player starter box drops.  Also, CB has said that they won't do a Combined/Tohaa starter, so I think our next two-person starter is Ariadna/Aliens, probably Combined, and that leaves Aleph/Tohaa.  I could have the pairings backwards, so Ariadna/Tohaa and Aleph/Combined is equally possible.  Aleph/Combined would probably be a rather advanced 'starter', though.

So I think it's fair to say most people want to see a Dire Foes character for every troop type that can, or will in future be able to, make a spec ops.

How do people feel about the Dire Foes in terms of characters they'd like to see then? Do we prefer the multi-loadout versions like Yasbir and Konstantinos, or the single option ones?

Yeah, one per spec ops option is ideal.

I love the 2 option ones, as it allows for a solo build, along with one balanced more towards link teams. More variety (with real worthwhile choices) is always favorable.

The two-profile spec ops tend to be very close to each other in purpose. Makes for interesting variation on a singular topic. Sort of disappointed that neither Xi nor Leila had that.

Not that Bolts can be Spec Ops (comparing to Thorakitai, the only thing stopping them is probably symmetry reasons that Pan-O already have 3 spec ops options) but that's a damned good idea.

And by being an good idea it's another reason why PanO won't get it.

To the people saying that Dire Foes have to be made from the Spec Op troop I hace only one word to say: Hast

He's a damned Gwailo!

Granted, that's because Seed Soldiers are so horrible you can't get anything good out of them.
